Abstract:

A method and apparatus for protecting a disk from overwrites during mechanical shock. If the PES exceeds an off-track threshold for a predetermined number of servo samples, the read/write is suspended for a predetermined duration. The predetermined duration allows for the mechanical shock or disturbance to abate and allows the heads to settle with respect to the track. The off-track threshold being exceeded for several servo samples is used as an indicator of the mechanical force and subsequent undesirable vibration. The writes can then be suspended for the predetermined duration, thereby avoiding overwriting data on adjacent tracks.

A method and apparatus for capturing and recording indications of frequency content of electromagnetic signals and radiation is disclosed including a laser light source (12) and a Bragg cell (14) for deflecting a light beam (22) at a plurality of deflection angles (36) dependent upon frequency content of the signal. A streak camera (26) and a microchannel plate intensifier (28) are used to project Bragg cell (14) output onto either a photographic film (32) or a charge coupled device (CCD) imager (366). Timing markers are provided by a comb generator (50) and a one shot generator (52), the outputs of which are also routed through the streak camera (26) onto the film (32) or the CCD imager (366). Using the inventive method, the full range of the output of the Bragg cell (14) can be recorded as a function of time.

A catheter system may include a catheter adapter and a needle shield device coupled to the catheter adapter. The needle shield device may include a needle housing and a needle assembly slideably coupled to the needle housing. The needle housing may include an elongated body and a nose portion coupled to the elongated body. The elongated body may include a distal end, a proximal end, and a slot disposed between the distal end and the proximal end of the elongated body. The needle assembly may include a needle grip and a needle hub having a protuberance coupled to the needle grip and slideably fit within the slot. To facilitate securement between the catheter adapter and the needle shield device, a flexible arm of the needle shield device may couple to the catheter adapter and/or multiple protrusions of the nose portion may contact an internal wall of the catheter adapter.

A needle shield device may include a needle housing and a needle assembly slideably coupled to the needle housing. The needle housing may include a nose portion configured to be inserted into a catheter adapter and an elongated body having a distal end, a proximal end, and a slot disposed between the distal end and the proximal end of the elongated body. A distal portion of the slot may be sealed to prevent blood from leaking out of the needle housing. The needle assembly may include a needle grip, an introducer needle having a sharp distal tip and a proximal end, and a needle hub having a protuberance coupled to the needle grip and slideably fit within the slot. In response to movement of the needle assembly to a proximal position with respect to the needle housing, the sharp distal tip may be disposed within the needle housing.
