Abstract:This invention relates to a dispenser which is particularly adapted for receiving large size beverage containers for the purpose of dispensing partial quantities thereof. The dispenser includes a spigot which is of a simulated construction and generally corresponds to soda fountain dispenser spigots of the past. Dispensing is by way of dispensing and vent lines which include collapsible tube portions which are selectively clamped closed or are permitted to open by means of a handle member of the spigot. The dispenser may have incorporated therein a scale which is operable by the weight of the container and beverage contained therein to indicate the amount of beverage remaining in the container when the beverage cannot be visually inspected.

Abstract:An internal combustion powered tool, such as a nail or fastener driver, and a control system, spark source, and rotary valve for use in an internal combustion powered tool are disclosed. The tool may include, for example, a cylinder and a piston reciprocally moveable within the cylinder. A combustion chamber is defined at one end of the cylinder, with the piston comprising a portion of one end of the combustion chamber. The tool may have a fastener driver associated with the piston, and a magazine for feeding fasteners into registration with the driver. A fuel flow passageway extends between a fuel source and the combustion chamber, and a metering valve controls the flow of fuel to the combustion chamber. A spark source within the combustion chamber is provided for igniting the fuel, and an intake and exhaust valve that includes a pair of diametrically opposed apertures is provided. At least one fan external to the combustion chamber induces an intake of fresh air into the combustion chamber through one of the apertures and an exhaust of combustion products from the combustion chamber through the other aperture.

Abstract:This relates to the forging of web-like portions of components so as to increase the density thereof and to shape the material for various purposes. In one form of the invention forging is utilized to form an upstanding sealing rib without a material orientation of the plastic which would result in distortion of the material should it be subjected to retorting. In another form of the invention forge tooling is utilized to provide an element with a hinge strip wherein the core material is compressed without an undue internal stressing of the core material. Most particularly, the tooling is heated to provide a softening of the skin surfaces of the material thereby permitting relative movement of the material which is being forged with respect to the tooling and thereby an internal compressing of the material without shear stresses being developed therein.

Abstract:This relates to a package wherein there is a container having bonded thereto for removal a peelable lid. The lid is provided with a pull tab extension to facilitate one pulling on the lid to effect removal of the lid from the associated container. The pull tab is releasably stored by folding the pull tab upon itself so as to overlie the lid and thereafter releasable bond the pull tab nose to the underlying lid to assure that the pull tab is retained during handling of the package in a position closely overlying the lid and out-of-the-way. When it desired to utilize the pull tab, the bond between the pull tab and the lid is released and the pull tab is moved upwardly and forwardly to a position where it may be readily gripped between ones thumb and adjacent finger to apply the necessary pull on the lid to effect the peeling thereof from the container.

Abstract:The easy opening end closure for attachment to a can body. The end closure includes a plastic pull tab having a closure tab sealed in a slit which defines a displaceable closure. The pull tab is attached by forging a plastic strip over a lid in a manner such that the plastic is caused to flow and force the metal panel against a cutting edge to form a slit defining a displaceable closure. Abstract:This relates to a system for reheating adhesive bonding an end unit to a can body under controlled conditions and then further telescoping the end unit relative to the can body to assure proper adhesive flow relative to the can body. An end unit has been previously applied to a can body and is bonded thereto by a hot melt adhesive which has partially set. The end unit is not in its fully telescoped position. The adhesive is reheated to a temperature wherein the adhesive has the desired fluidity, after which the adhesive is maintained at this temperature and the end unit is moved to its fully telescoped position with a bead of the adhesive flowing over and encapsulating the raw edge of the can body.

Abstract:A novel connection for a thermoplastic neck to a stub neck portion of a container, comprising a curl on the stub neck portion and a complimentary groove on the neck which cooperate to permit a portion of the neck below the curl to expand when a plug of the closure cap, which is threaded onto the neck, is inserted into the neck. The neck and neck portion have interlocking projections to prevent the neck from turning and the neck and cap having a novel thread arrangement which insures that the plug will properly enter into the neck and provide a good seal which could be frustrated if the neck was permitted to turn.
