Abstract:

A sandal type overshoe for releasable mounting on primary footwear, e. g. , a boot or shoe, is disclosed. The overshoe comprises a sole with a forefoot region, a midfoot region, and a hindfoot portion. Toe, side and heel anchor pieces are disposed along the perimeter of the sole and accept two removable lace pieces, one of which connects the front anchor piece and the side anchor pieces, and one of which connects the heel anchor pieces to the side anchor pieces. The sole portion has a ground engaging surface that can provide enhanced traction or other functionality.

Abstract:

A piece of footwear is equipped with one or more spare cleat fasteners adapted to receive one or more spare cleats on a upper of the footwear and a plurality of cleat fasteners adapted to receive a plurality of cleats on a sole of the footwear. In one implementation, the spare cleat fasteners are apertures adapted to receive the spare cleats. When a user of the footwear discovers that one or more cleats on the sole of the footwear are worn, broken, or missing, the user may replace the worn, broken, or missing cleats with spare cleats located in the spare cleat fasteners on the upper of the footwear.

Abstract:

An ice-gripping attachment device for securement to the sole of primary footwear, e. g. , a boot. The attachment device includes comprises a front section, a rear section, and a pair of straps interconnecting the sections. The front section includes a front sole portion having a toe box disposed over it. The rear section includes a rear sole portion and a heel cup disposed over it. The toe box is adapted for accommodating the toe portion of the boot, while the heel cup is arranged for accommodating the heel portion of the boot. The pair of straps interconnect the toe box and the heel cup along the medial and lateral sides of the boot and are located above the front sole portion and the rear sole portion so that they do not contact the ground when attachment device is in place on the boot. The straps are arranged to be releasably secured together by VELCRO. RTM. or other hook and loop fasteners and can be extend about the upper of the boot to prevent the rear section of the device from becoming disengaged from the boot.

Abstract:

An ice-gripping sandal for releasable mounting on the foot of a person or on the sole of a boot or other primary footwear worn by the person. The sandal comprises a sole, a toe strapping assembly and a heel strapping assembly for mounting the sandal on the boot. The sandal's sole has a bottom surface having plural groups of cleats projecting therefrom. Some of the cleats are located within a forefoot and toe portion of the sole and extend at an acute angle to the longitudinal axis of the sole. These cleats include end portions having respective ice-gripping screws mounted therein. Grooves are provided between the cleats in the forefoot and toe portions of the sole, with the width and depth of the grooves increasing from the medial side of the sole to the lateral side of the sole. The grooves enable material which may tend to adhere to the sole within the grooves to be forced out of the grooves when the wearer walks. In order to increase the flexibility of the sole plural recesses are provided in the arch region contiguous with the forefoot portion.

Abstract:

An convertible, footwear attachment device and methods of configuring it and using it on a primary footwear to provide resistance to slippage on snow, ice or other slick surfaces. The attachment device is of the sling-type, full-sole unit and is formed of an elastic, flexible and severable material. The full-sole unit is made up of a sole, a toe attachment assembly, a heel attachment assembly, and visible indicia, e. g. , grooves, for indicating the boundaries of a removable portion of the full-sole unit which may be severed therefrom to form the half-sole unit. The attachment assemblies enable the device to be releasably mounted on the primary footwear irrespective of whether the device is converted from the full-sole unit to the half-sole unit or not. The sole and heel portions of the full-sole unit each include plural hard, ice-gripping projections, e. g. , spikes.

Abstract:

An ice-gripping sandal for securement to the sole of a boot or other primary footwear. The sandal comprises a sole and plural attachment straps for mounting the sandal on the boot. The sandal's sole has a bottom surface having plural ice-gripping teeth. The attachment straps are secured to the sole and comprise a short front strap and a long front strap and a pair of short rear straps. The long front strap is arranged to be extended through a loop in the short front strap and about the upper of the boot through loops in the rear straps so that its free end is connected to a buckle mounted on the short front strap at the toe of the boot, thereby forming "figure 8" strap pattern. A pair of cooperating VELCRO. RTM. fastening strips are secured onto the long strap to hold the long strap in the buckle. A heel retainer in the form of a projection is located at the rear of the sole of the sandal for frictionally engaging the vertically extending portion of the heel of the primary footwear to aid in holding the sandal in place.
