Abstract:

There is presented an alkaline disinfectant in the form of a multi-component composition, with each component being relatively benign until mixed with the other components in a ready-to-use solution. The invention further relates to the use of the composition in a variety of applications and apparatus for mixing and dispensing thereof. Furthermore, the invention relates to the use of components that synergistically provide effective biocidal activity in a broad spectrum of organisms, including germs, molds, viruses, bacteria, bacteria spores, or other microbes or pathogens. The composition provides a chemical system that kills all known plants, animals and microbes by raising pH and rapidly, but indirectly, transporting hydroxide into cells by use of ammonia compounds and/or amine compounds as neutral transporters. The composition components synergistically operate together to provide a disinfecting/cleaning composition useful for many different applications.

Methods for the production of photocatalytic materials and coated substrate materials are provided according to the invention. A process for forming a photocatalytic coating on a substrate is provided. The photocatalytic coating includes titanium oxide on a titanium substrate for example. The photocatalytic coated substrate may be used in a device for treating contaminated fluids including water, air and mixtures thereof.

Abstract:

Compositions and methods for protecting the luminal lining against gastric acid challenge are disclosed. The compositions provide effective anti-ulcer preparations which include phosphorylated alcohol. Phosphorylated alcohols comprise the active anti-ulcerogenic ingredient of the described therapeutic formulations. The preparation of unique linear and cyclic polyphosphorylated alcohols and methods of using same to protect the stomach luminal lining against acid challenge are also disclosed. Inositol hexaphosphate and mannitol hexaphosphate are demonstrated to provide therapeutic value in the treatment and prevention of gastro-erosive disease precipitated by exposure of biological tissues to highly acidic substances, for example, the gastric digestive acids. While inositol hexaphosphate alone at subthreshold concentrations provides a small gastro-protective activity, a combination of inositol hexaphosphate (at subthreshold concentrations) with polyvalent cations, such as Au. sup. +3 or Bi. sup. +3, provides synergistic enhancement of the composition as a gastro-protective formulation.
