  • Abstract:
A wireless radio communication scheme in which data packets scheduled for transmission to spatially diverse locations are directed by a switched router apparatus capable of switching data packets and transmitting them between network nodes, where the direction and timing of switching is controlled in real time by the information derived from the packets route destination and the networks node spatial topology. The present invention uses a very high speed electronically controlled switched array feed for the microwave frequency range above 1 GHz, coupled to an RF focusing and collimating antenna that enables the wireless transceivers nodes to spatially switch data packets towards other wireless transceivers nodes based on the data packets routing, scheduling and link availability information.

Each shroud has a radome projecting from the shroud in line of sight relation to other radomes in the network. A microwave radio transceiver is disposed within the shroud, operating on a scheduled transmission and reception basis in accordance with a schedule provided in a control channel amidst data. A ball-shaped microwave refractive lens is located adjacent to the radome, inside of the shroud, with a curved array of feed ports and switches, with the feed ports communicating microwave energy between the transceiver and the radome through the lens in multiple selected directions.

The lid includes a free surface that may move a small amount without cracking. The second metal adhesion layer is configured such that its outer end does not extend past the free surface of the lid to minimize crack formation.
  • Optical Switch

  • US Patent:
    6839479, Jan 4, 2005
  • Filed:
    May 29, 2002
  • Appl. No.:
    10/160305
  • Inventors:
Josef Berger - Los Altos CA, US
Gregory Miller - Foster City CA, US
Ronald Miles - Menlo Park CA, US
  • Assignee:
Silicon Light Machines Corporation - Sunnyvale CA
  • International Classification:
    G02B 626
  • US Classification:
    385 16, 385 14, 385 30
  • Abstract:
An optical switch comprises a substrate, first and second optical waveguide, and first and second conducting elements. The first optical waveguide is coupled to the substrate. The first conducting element is coupled to the first optical waveguide. The second optical waveguide is coupled to the substrate. The second conducting element is coupled to the second optical waveguide. In operation, a first electrical bias applied between the first and second conducting elements causes the first optical waveguide to not optically couple to the second optical waveguide. Further in operation, a second electric bias applied between the first and second conducting elements causes the first optical waveguide to optically couple to the second optical waveguide.
  • Join Process Method For Admitting A Node To A Wireless Mesh Network

    view source
  • US Patent:
    6850502, Feb 1, 2005
  • Filed:
    Oct 30, 2000
  • Appl. No.:
    09/699582
  • Inventors:
Yishai Kagan - Sunnyvale CA, US
Josef Berger - Santa Clara CA, US
Patrick Worfolk - Campbell CA, US
  • Assignee:
    Radiant Networks, PLC - Essex
  • International Classification:
    H04Q 700
  • US Classification:
    370330, 370334, 370338, 370349, 370400
  • Abstract:
A join process is disclosed for a wireless mesh topology network. In the network, nodes have multiple spatial coverage sub-sectors together covering a larger sector angle and a node can establish connection with other nodes located in directions covered by its sub-sectors. The join process adds a joining node to the network and includes having the joining node listen to sub-sectors at a specific receiving frequency for a defined time. Thereafter, the network node changes its sub sectors and its receiving frequencies according to a defined timing and sequence. Active network nodes transmit organized invitation data packets on defined sectors, frequencies and timing, based on relative location and relative angle orientation deduced from sub-sectors already in use for existing internal network communication. This reduces frequency interference in the network and reduces time required for the join process.
  • Fiber Optic Transceiver

    view source
  • US Patent:
    6865346, Mar 8, 2005
  • Filed:
    Jun 5, 2001
  • Appl. No.:
    09/875499
  • Inventors:
Gregory Miller - Foster City CA, US
Josef Berger - Los Altos CA, US
  • Assignee:
Silicon Light Machines Corporation - Sunnyvale CA
  • International Classification:
    H04B010/00
  • US Classification:
    398135, 398136, 398139
  • Abstract:
A fiber optic transceiver capable of bi-directional communication comprises an incoming optical (downlink) signal, a detector comprising a detecting surface configured to detect a detected portion of the incoming optical signal that strikes the detecting surface, and a light modulator for modulating a reflected (uplink) signal. The reflected signal comprises a reflected portion of the incoming signal. The light modulator comprises a controllable reflection member for modulating the reflected signal, and a controller configured to control the controllable reflection member. The controllable reflection member implements micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) technology wherein micro-reflective surfaces are physically positioned or oriented by the control signal, thereby affecting reflection and diffraction in such a way as to modulate the intensity of light entering an uplink channel.
