Abstract:

A cap lock system for restricting access to a threaded cylindrical end of an access or security device, such as a Schrader valve. An inner lock has a threaded cavity which screws onto an externally-threaded cylindrical end of the Schrader valve. The inner lock itself is received into an open end of an outer cap which captively encloses the inner lock in a manner which allows free rotation between the inner lock and outer cap and prevents the inner lock from being unscrewed. An upper endwall of the outer cap has a keyhole leading into a recessed cavity of the inner lock, with the recessed cavity surrounded by an annular wall. A key is provided for locking and unlocking the inner lock from the Schrader valve. The key has a pivot shaft which is matingly insertable into a section of the keyhole which is configured to support radial loads similar to a journal bearing. A tab connected to a leading end of the pivot shaft is insertable through the keyhole and into the recessed cavity.

Abstract:

A parachute canopy release mechanism. The canopy release releasably holds a strap holding member. The strap holding member is released by movement of a latch, which in turn is released by an actuating lever which is protected against inadvertent opening by a cover. The cover has a cover lock which further prevents the inadvertent release of the latch. The release mechanism can have a removable triggering unit which is activated when the mechanism is exposed to water.

Abstract:

A dead cable end distributes holding force over a length of a cable end to reduce or eliminate damage to cables. The dead cable end includes a housing containing a plurality of collets each residing in a collet receptacle. Each collet includes a conical exterior and a lengthwise collet gap and each collet receptacle includes a conical interior. The collets and collet receptacle are held inside the housing by a retaining nut, and the collet and collet receptacle pairs are compressed between the retaining nut and a spring inside the housing. The cable end resides inside the collets, and compressive force on each collet and collet receptacle pair causes each collet to compress radially and hold the cable end. The holding force is thereby distributed over the length of each collet and over the plurality of collet and receptacle pairs to avoid damage to the cable.

Abstract:

A combination tool includes a compact “D” shaped handle and a rotating drum for tool selection. The straight back segment of the “D” provides an axis for rotation of the drum. The drum includes opposed tool ends, either of which may be rotated into position for use. In a preferred embodiment, the tool ends are keys for releasing a tamper resistant cap over a Schrader valve. Each key is shaped for a cap used with a particular Freon refrigerant used in an air conditioning unit. The drum includes indicia of which Freon refrigerant the corresponding key matches.
