Abstract:

A golf training device including flat, web material having a transverse dimension of about 1/2 to 3 feet, and a single internal target hole having a diameter of about 4 1/4 inches. The softness, flexibility and thinness of the web material is such that, with the web material placed on a holeless surface, a golf ball rolling thereto by a putting stroke, will be only slightly impeded by both the peripheral boundary of the web material, and the circumferential boundary of the target hole.

Abstract:

A golf swing training mat has a follow-through notch. Golfers may align their feet and body with the notched mat and hit the ball near a hitting area edge thereof for more authentic golf swing training, especially at driving ranges. The mat has a hitting surface made of a material that nearly looks and gives a feeling of real grass and that is not easily destroyed by repeated swings of a golf club striking the material, and also a soft underpad. The golfer is able and is encouraged to realistically practice hitting down and through a golf ball as is to be done with an iron shot to obtain good backspin and hence, loft. Bounce-back or shock can be generally eliminated. Thus, the golfer can practice a fluid iron stroke generally without mat-caused interruption. In addition, the follow-through notch, is in part defined by a hitting area edge segment perpendicular to an intended line of flight of the golf ball to be struck by the golfer from the hitting surface, and is trapezoidal and additionally defined by an obliquely-angled edge segment obliquely angled to the abutting the hitting area edge segment, which envoids an area such that the golfer, when swinging an iron, can properly follow through downwardly after striking a golf ball with a golf club into the downwardmost portion of the swing when the ball is struck near the edge of the mat on the hitting area, and which allows for the golfer to follow through in a practice swing without striking the obliquely-angled edge segment.

Abstract:

A method of instruction for improving actual play of golf, which method comprises the following steps: hitting golf balls to a golf swing touch trainer, which embraces a portably-sized, substantially flat web material having a transverse dimension about one-half foot to about three feet, a top horizontal surface, and a bottom horizontal surface generally in vertical registry with and essentially parallel to the top surface, a peripheral boundary; having a substantially thin side profile less than about 1/8 of an inch such that a golf ball can roll across the peripheral boundary from, and to, a surface on which the trainer can be placed and onto, and off, the top surface of the web material without being substantially impeded in its travel; having a dark color or shade so as to be able to simulate a hole or easily discernible area, which can be impressionable and memorable as to an aiming area to be employed in real play after use of the trainer, and having within the peripheral boundary a single internal target having a diameter approximately that of a golf green hole such that the web material peripheral boundary surrounds and is external to the internal target hole wherein on essentially all of said top surface a ball can roll and rest; and no hole other than the internal target hole is present in the web material.

Abstract:

A golf swing training device includes a flat substantially rectangular base with two forwardly directable edges along which are located club head alignment aids, spikes for securing the base to a practice surface, a substantially rectangular hitting surface with two forwardly directable edges spaced apart a distance less than that between the two forwardly directable edges of the base, hook and loop fabric material for adjustably attaching the hitting surface to the base, and optionally, either a ball position pointer pivotably associatable with the base, which includes an elongate substantially parallel-sided pivotable rule with a pivot end and a pointer distal to the pivot end, or a golfer's square, which includes the ball position pointer or the like, an elongate substantially parallel-sided right rule rightly attachable to the pivotable rule, and hook and loop fabric material for attaching the rules. The device, or a suitable portion thereof, can be used to provide golf swing instruction.

Abstract:

A golfer's square includes a ball position pointer or the like. The ball position pointer includes an elongate substantially parallel-sided pivotable rule with a pivot end and a pointer distal to the pivot end, and the ball position pointer or the like is rightly attached to an elongate substantially parallel-sided right rule attachable to the pivotable rule, with hook and loop material such as VELCRO (Reg. U. S. Pat. & Tm. Off. ), to make the golfer's square. The golfer's square or the ball position pointer may be used separately in methods to assist the golfer align his stance properly. A protruding right angle edge may be provided on the right rule to faciliate orienting both rules prior to attaching same together.

Abstract:

Golf swing training mat for highly authentic practice includes a support surface; a standing surface; a hitting surface separate from the standing surface and removably attachable to the support surface and having an area thereof designated as a front hitting area, which is made of a material that nearly looks and gives a feeling of real grass and that is not easily destroyed by repeated swings of a golf club striking the material--preferably, the front hitting area being present in conjunction with an overhang, or a generally open underpass; and a follow through notch ahead of the hitting surface, in part defined by an obliquely-angled edge, generally obliquely angled to and abutting a front edge of the hitting surface, which envoids an area such that a golfer when swinging an iron can properly follow through downwardly after striking a golf ball into the downwardmost portion of the swing when the ball is struck near the front hitting area, and which allows for the golfer to follow through without striking the obliquely-angled edge segment. Thus, the golfer can be encouraged in realistic practice from a durable mat, especially with iron shots, and bounce-back or shock can generally be eliminated. And so, numerous, fluid iron strokes can be practiced generally without mat-caused interruption.

Abstract:

A golf swing practice pad has a flat, generally elongate base having a length and a width; means for securing the base to a practice surface; a generally elongate hitting surface having a length, and having a width wider than the width of the base; and means for adjustably attaching the hitting surface to the base. Advantageously, the pad has a special tee slot in its base. The pad is useful in golfing instruction and practice. In another aspect, a method for attaching web material to plastic stock embraces heating the plastic stock, for instance, heating thermoplastic pellets to provide heated plastic stock, which may be extruded from a die, contacting the heated plastic stock and the web and passing the same through a sizing device, under conditions such that the web is attached to the stock. Another aspect embraces attached web and stock materials, including a loop web for hook and loop attachment melded to the practice pad base. A further aspect includes an article useful for golf swing training having a durable tongue material with a cul-de-sac shaped notch to accommodate the positioning of a rubber practice tee for a golf ball by slipping the post of the tee sidewardly through a neck of the notch from outside the tongue such that the post can rest in a larger hole of the notch with the base of the rubber tee under the tongue.
