Abstract:

A method, and systems for implementing such method, for purifying and conditioning air of weaponized contaminants. The method includes wetting a filter packing media with a salt-based liquid desiccant, such as water with a high concentration of lithium chloride. Air is passed through the wetted filter packing media and the contaminants in are captured with the liquid desiccant while the liquid desiccant dehumidifies the air. The captured contaminants are then deactivated in the liquid desiccant, which may include heating the liquid desiccant. The liquid desiccant is regenerated by applying heat to the liquid desiccant and then removing moisture. The method includes repeating the wetting with the regenerated liquid desiccant which provides a regenerable filtering process that captures and deactivates contaminants on an ongoing basis while also conditioning the air. The method may include filtration effectiveness enhancement by electrostatic or inertial means.

Abstract:

A conventional magnetomechanical EAS marker is modified to aid in authenticating an article of merchandise to which the marker is to be applied. The marker includes a housing, a magnetostrictive element in the housing, a bias magnet mounted to the housing, and an authentication element in the housing for indicating the authenticity of the item to which the marker is to be applied. The authentication element may be a printed logo, bar code or character string or a discrete element having distinctive or rare characteristics.

Abstract:

An inventory of goods is protected from theft by affixing to at least some of the items of the inventory an electronic article surveillance marker. An indicia which indicates the presence of the marker is also applied to the items of the inventory. In some cases, the indicia may be applied to goods to deter theft thereof even though no EAS marker is present on the goods. The indicia may include a code that indicates to store personnel that no EAS marker is in fact present. When a marker is present, the indicia may provide guidance as to how to activate or deactivate the marker. Information as to what kind of marker is affixed may also be included in the indicia.

Abstract:

A cap for a bottle to be protected from theft includes a covering portion for covering an opening of the bottle and an electronic article surveillance ("EAS") marker. The covering portion has a surface and a wall that extends downward from the surface and along a circumference of the surface. The EAS marker comprises a circular disk positioned within a cavity defined by an inner surface of the wall of the covering portion and a marker element attached to and extending downward from the circular disk. The marker element is insertable through the opening of the bottle and provides a signal that is detectable by an electronic article surveillance system.
