Abstract:

The invention provides a stable ectoparasiticidal aqueous suspension formulation of a spinosyn, comprising the spinosyn, or a physiologically acceptable derivative or salt thereof, milled to an average particle size of 1 to 15 microns, a surfactant in an amount effective to facilitate wetting the milled particles; a dispersant in an amount that forms a spinosyn;dispersant weight ration of from 3:1 to 1:5; and water. It also provides a method of controlling an ectoparasite infestation on a small ruminant or companion animal comprising administering an effective amount of such an aqueous suspension formulation.

Abstract:

A dispenser is provided. The dispenser has a reservoir for storing a liquid or solid material. The dispenser may have a piezoelectric valve or pump located in an opening of the reservoir for regulating dispensing of the material. Alternatively, the dispenser may have a piezoelectric inchworm that directly or indirectly propels the material against or out of the opening. The opening may deposit the material directly or indirectly on the surface of an animal, or under the animal's skin. The dispenser also can be attached to the surface of the animal. Alternatively, the dispenser may be placed inside the animal.

Abstract:

The present invention relates to a controlled dosage release element adapted to be inserted into and retained in the rumen of a ruminant animal. The element comprises: a) one or more discrete and predetermined amounts of at least a first formulation comprising at least a first active agent, the formulation being adapted to dissolve in rumen fluids at a rate such that dissolution of each of the one or more amounts of first formulation provides a short or pulsed episode of release of the first active agent into the rumen; and b) one or more predetermined amounts of at least a second formulation adapted to dissolve at a controlled rate in rumen fluids; wherein the one or more amounts of first formulation are provided at one or more predetermined locations within the element relative to said one or more amounts of second formulation for one or more delayed releases of at least the first active agent into the rumen at predetermined times before, during, after, or any combination thereof, of a predetermined extended time period defined by said second formulation. The invention also relates to a method for delivering at least a first active agent to the rumen of a ruminant animal in a delayed manner at one or more predetermined times after administration to the animal of a composition containing the active agent, the method comprising administering to the animal a controlled dosage release element according to the invention. The first active agent will typically be for the treatment, prophylaxis or both of a diseased or infested state in a ruminant animal, or for altering the physiological status of a ruminant animal.

Abstract:

A dispenser that delivers a small but consistent and sustained amount of liquid over an extended period of time, particularly useful but not limited to dispensing pesticides when worn by cattle. The dispenser has a shell having an opening. A reservoir is disposed in the shell and holds a pesticide or other liquid. A wick is in fluid communication with the reservoir. An end of the wick is positioned adjacent the opening and has a greater capillary attraction or wicking ability than the reservoir, whereby during use of the dispenser the wick draws fluid from the reservoir and deposits it on the animal upon contact.
