"People pleasers feel more intense pressure to eat when they believe that their eating will help another person feel more comfortable," says researcher Julie Exline, PhD, a Case Western Reserve psychologist, in a news release.
"If you sense that another person wants you to eat, you'll be more likely to eat more," said Julie Exline, a psychologist at Case Western Reserve University and lead author of the study published today in the Journal of Social and Clinical Psychology. "If we look back later and feel like we've given
eat, whether theyre hungry or not, in order to match what people around them are eating. Problem is, they tend regret their choices later. It doesnt feel good to give into social pressures, said Julie Exline, a Case Western Reserve psychologist and lead author of the study, in a statement.
