Abstract:

In video compression processing, such as MPEG-2 compression processing, the quantization (Q) matrix used to quantize discrete cosine transform (DCT) coefficients is updated from frame to frame based on a parameterized Q matrix adaptation algorithm. According to the algorithm, the Q matrix for the current frame is generated based on DCT coefficient data from the previously encoded frame of the same type (e. g. , I, P, or B) as the current frame. In particular, the Q matrix is generated using a function based on shape parameters (e. g. , the slope of the diagonal of the Q matrix and/or the convexity of the diagonal of the Q matrix), where the diagonal slope for the Q matrix of the current frame is generated based on the diagonal slope of a DCT map for the previously encoded frame. Before using the generated Q matrix to quantize the DCT coefficients for the current frame, the Q matrix is preferably adjusted for changes in the target mean from the previously encoded frame to the current frame.

Abstract:

Known sequences are detected and identified in a fast fading environment using a segmented correlator and FHT (Fast Hadamard Transform) architecture. The incoming sequence of samples or data is segmented into blocks. Each block is individually detected using a correlator/FHT segment. Each sequence identifying output of each correlator/FHT segment is summed with the corresponding output of other correlator/FHT segments. Each sum is compared with a threshold to determine whether a particular sequence has been detected and identified.

Abstract:

Detection and identification of known sequences such as sequences composed of Walsh-Hadamard sequence and scrambling sequence are provided in a fast fading and frequency offset environment using a segmented correlator and FHT (Fast Hadamard Transform) architecture with frequency offset compensation. The incoming sequence of samples or data is segmented into blocks. Each block is individually detected using a correlator/FHT segment. Each sequence identifying output of each correlator/FHT segment is multiplied by a sinusoid for frequency offset compensation. The frequency offset compensated output from each correlator/FHT segment is summed with the corresponding frequency offset compensated output of other correlator/FHT segments. Each sum is compared with a threshold to determine whether a particular sequence has been detected and identified.

Abstract:

In a method and arrangement for detecting a random access channel preamble in a received uplink signal, the uplink signal is received at one or more receive antennas and contains data related to a random access channel preamble. The received uplink signal is subjected to spatial processing and temporal processing in order to detect the random access channel preamble. A best cell portion for communicating with a user may also be determined based on the detected preamble. The best cell portion represents a portion of a cell where a received uplink signal from a user has a highest signal to interference ratio. The detected random access channel preamble is indicative of the best cell portion for communicating with the user.

Abstract:

The disclosed embodiments relate to a communication system and method. The system may comprise a pre-whitening device that applies pre-whitening data to a received signal from an antenna array to produce a pre-whitened signal, at least one detector that is adapted to recognize a pattern corresponding to a request for access in the pre-whitened signal and compute correlation data corresponding to the pattern, and a threshold detector that determines whether the correlation data exceeds a threshold and indicates that an acknowledgement signal should be transmitted if the threshold is exceeded. The method may comprise the acts of creating a pre-whitened signal by applying pre-whitening data to a received signal, detecting a pattern that corresponds to a request for access in the pre-whitened signal, computing correlation data corresponding to the pattern, determining whether the correlation data exceeds a threshold, and indicating that an acknowledgement signal should be transmitted if the threshold is exceeded.
