Abstract:

In a method for thermally managing a data center housing at least one electronic component, the heat generated by a heat generating device of the at least one electronic component is estimated. In addition, a temperature detected by a first temperature sensor positioned to detect an interior temperature of the at least one electronic component is received. The estimated heat generated by the at least one heat generating device is substantially masked out from the temperature detected by the first temperature sensor and an inlet temperature of the at least one electronic component is determined from a difference between the substantially masked out temperature and the temperature detected by the first temperature sensor.

Abstract:

In a method for managing a data center, data for a training set of data is collected. The data includes heat loads generated by a plurality of electronic components and temperatures at multiple locations in the data center and under varying power profiles. A machine learning application is implemented to develop a model of a thermal topology of the data center using the training set of data and the model is implemented to predict heat profiles corresponding to a plurality of power profiles that are outside of the training set of data.

Abstract:

In a method of allocating workload among servers based upon historical data, a requested workload profile is received and is compared with a plurality of historical workload profiles. A historical workload profile that is within a predefined range of the requested workload profile and that corresponds to a substantially minimized resource usage for power and cooling is selected. In addition, workload among the servers is allocated according to the selected historical workload profile to thereby substantially minimize resource usage for power and cooling.

Abstract:

A method of distributing power among servers is described includes calculating thermal multipliers of the servers, where the thermal multipliers represent recommended thermodynamic power consumption levels for the servers. In addition, the thermal multipliers of the servers are discretized to one of a plurality of server power states based upon geographic locations of the servers and one of the plurality of server power states is assigned to the servers based upon the discretization of the thermal multipliers.
