Abstract:
A system and a method analyze fatigue damage of a bottom hole assembly (“BHA”), and more specifically, use a multi-scale approach for fatigue analysis of a BHA. Three length scales may be used in modeling of a BHA, namely the BHA scale, the component scale and the feature scale. Loading conditions for each collar/tool of the BHA may be determined, such as by use of a beam model, and may be applied to the finite element models for the collar/tool to determine the fatigue damage of each fatigue susceptible feature of each collar/tool. A cumulative fatigue damage of each critical feature may be determined, and the weakest component of the BHA may be identified. Prognostic and diagnostic implementation with well survey and drilling data may monitor fatigue damage of critical components of the BHA.

Abstract:
A method for improving finite element analysis of threaded connections includes selecting at least one thread parameter for a female connection and a corresponding male connection. In two dimensions a thread form is calculated for the female connection and the male connection based on the at least one parameter. In two dimensions a geometry is calculated of the female connection and the male connection based on the thread form. In two dimensions the female connection and the male connection are segmented into predefined areas. A finite element analysis mesh is calculated based on a predetermined number of nodes for each of the predefined areas and a selected number of mesh layers for each predefined area. The two dimensional female connection and male connection are assembled. The two dimensional mesh on the assembled connections is used as input to a finite element analysis of the threaded connection in three dimensions.
A camera includes a first microphone, a second microphone, one or more drains, and a processor. The processor determines a correlation metric between portions of audio signals obtained from the first and second microphones. The one or more drains drain water away from the first microphone, the second microphone, or both. The camera includes a memory to store the portions of the audio signals as portions of an output audio signal.

A virtual integration test system includes a computer configured to receive data indicative of measured dimensions of as-built components. The computer is also configured to perform a motion mechanics simulation on at least two deformation-uncritical components of the as-built components and perform a deformation mechanics simulation on at least one deformation-critical component of the as-built components. Techniques are described for determining a duration for a transition and alteration of the appearance of a user interface (UI) from a first UI state to a second UI state over the transition duration according to a timing function that specifies different rates of change in appearance over the course of the transition and is derived by adjusting a master timing function that is used to control a plurality of transitions in the UI to span the transition duration for the transition. A time value of an inflection point within the timing function is determined and the transition duration is divided into a first portion and a second portion so that the first portion extends from the beginning of the transition duration to the time value of the inflection point, and the second portion extends from the time value of the inflection point to the end of the transition duration.

Abstract:
A computer-aided engineering (CAE) toolkit is disclosed that streamlines and automates aspects of a CAE simulation to validate the designs of pressure-controlling components, such as BOP rams. The CAE toolkit enables a designer to provide a model of a pressure-controlling component, and to provide property values that describe aspects of the system to be modeled. Based on these inputs, the CAE toolkit generates a model for the system that includes the pressure-controlling component, as well as any other components that will be part of the simulation. The CAE toolkit can automatically generate a finite element analysis (FEA) model from the system model, and then use the FEA model to perform a simulation of the pressure-controlling component during operation. The CAE toolkit enables a designer with no training or experience with CAE or FEA techniques to perform and automate simulations of the operation of a pressure-controlling component design.
