Abstract:

A cooling device for a hermetic motor-compressor unit having an outer housing with a lubricant sump in the bottom thereof, a rotatable crankshaft vertically disposed in the housing, and a motor having a stator circumferentially disposed about the rotating crankshaft and a rotor connected to the crankshaft for rotation therewith. The cooling device comprises a pick-up tube connected to the rotating crankshaft and having one end thereof extending into the lubricant sump. The pick-up tube has an axial bore disposed therein and a radial passage means disposed therein in communication with the axial bore so that, upon rotation of the crankshaft, oil is pumped upwardly through the axial bore and a portion thereof thrown radially outwardly through the radial passage means and directly against the inner surfaces of the lower end turns of the stator without having first contacted any other parts of the motor.

Abstract:

The present invention provides a hermetic refrigeration compressor installation comprising an outer housing containing a refrigeration compressor, a plurality of indentations in the outer housing, a plurality of resilient grommets each having a grommet tip received within a respective one of the indentations, and a bonding between the grommets and the indentations for securing the grommets therein. Further provided is a base separate from the refrigeration compressor and outer housing, and projections on the base for mounting the grommets securely thereon. The method of the present invention comprises forming a plurality of indentations in the outer housing, providing a plurality of resilient grommets each having a grommet tip, adhesively securing each one of the grommet tips in a respective one of the indentations, and connecting the grommets securely to thebase.

Abstract:

An explosion resistant motor has a metal casing with a cluster of electrical terminals extending from a wall thereof and sealed thereto. A section of metal pipe has one end welded to the casing wall and surrounds the terminal cluster. A metal clip mounts an inherent thermal overload device in the open end of the pipe. A positive temperature coefficient resistance starting relay in the pipe is coupled between one motor terminal and one overload terminal. Electrical leads are connected to another motor terminal and another overload terminal and extend out of the pipe through a conduit welded to the wall thereof. A pipe cap is threaded on the open end of the pipe to complete an explosion resistant enclosure for the overload and starting relay, and also to secure the overload in place.
