Abstract:

Methods of forming a nano-supported catalyst on a substrate and at least one carbon nanotube on the substrate are comprised of configuring a substrate with an electrode ( ), immersing the substrate with the electrode into a solvent containing a first metal salt and a second metal salt ( ) and applying a bias voltage to the electrode such that a nano-supported catalyst is at least partly formed with the first metal salt and the second metal salt on the substrate at the electrode ( ). An exemplary system and method for providing a multi-layer klystron-type electron beam device for the generation and amplification of millimeter-wave electromagnetic radiation is disclosed as comprising inter alia: a cathode layer (); a collector layer (); an extraction layer (); a control layer (); an input cavity (); an output cavity (); several ceramic spacer layers () dispose intermediately between the cathode () and the collector (); and optionally, several magnetic ceramic layers () for beam forming and focusing. Abstract:

A method of fabricating a field emission device cathode using electrophoretic deposition of carbon nanotubes in which a separate step of depositing a binder material onto a substrate, is performed prior to carbon nanotube particle deposition. First, a binder layer is deposited on a substrate from a solution containing a binder material. The substrate having the binder material deposited thereon is then transferred into a carbon nanotube suspension bath allowing for coating of the carbon nanotube particles onto the substrate. Thermal processing of the coating transforms the binder layer properties which provides for the adhesion of the carbon nanotube particles to the binder material.

Abstract:

An apparatus for focusing electrons being emitted from a field emission device comprises a cathode metal layer () formed over a first portion of a substrate () to partially define a sidewall () for a trench () in a second portion of the substrate. A ballast layer () is formed over the second portion, the cathode metal layer (), and the sidewall (). A first dielectric layer () is formed over the ballast layer () in the first portion and a gate extraction metal layer () is formed thereover. At least one emitter () is formed above the substrate and in the trench () having the sidewall () defined by the first dielectric layer () and the cathode metal layer (). The ballast layer () extends along the sidewall and conductively contacts the cathode metal layer and the at least one emitter and provides a force that counteracts the sidewise pull of the gate extraction metal layer ().

An emission device is provided for extracting electrons onto an anode of a visual display. The emission device () includes a conductivity limited material () positioned between first and second electrodes () and having a surface (). A plurality of catalytic nanoparticles () are distributed throughout the conductivity limited material (), wherein some of the catalytic particles () are contiguous to the surface ().
