    G06F 9/44
    G06F 9/46
    G06F 13/00
  • US Classification:
    719313, 719314, 709230
  • Abstract:
A server system in typical operation has a process manager, multiple listeners (each to receive requests for its protocols) and multiple worker processes that are each able to handle requests in multiple protocols. At server start-up, each listener connects with the process manager via a pipe published by the process manager. The listener then receives information via the process manager that includes information defining the application(s) for which that listener is to “listen” and associating application(s) to application pool(s). When the listener receives a request for such an application, the listener starts a queue for the associated application pool. The listener may use a hierarchical matching scheme to determine the associated application or application pool from the requested application. The process manager launches an appropriate worker process to handle requests in the listener's protocol. The worker process then makes a connection with the listener.

  • Filed:
    Jan 26, 2001
  • Appl. No.:
    09/770337
  • Inventors:
Chad Magendanz - Issaquah WA, US
Kenneth D. Wolf - Seattle WA, US
  • Assignee:
    Microsoft Corporation - Redmond WA
  • International Classification:
    G06F 3/048
  • US Classification:
    715771, 715840, 715841
  • Abstract:
A system and method for browsing properties of an electronic document. The present invention is comprised of a property browser program module. The property browser program module communicates with a shared code library for one or more application programs. The shared code library can be in communication with one or more application programs. When a user interacts with an electronic document associated with an application program, the user can manipulate one or more properties of the application program. The property browser program module determines a status for one or more properties for the electronic document through information received from the shared code library. Furthermore, the property browser program module determines a context for the electronic document through information received from the shared code library. Using the properties and context of the electronic document, the property browser program module creates a palette with one or more controls for the properties of the electronic document. The property browser program module then displays the palette in conjunction with the electronic document through the user interface associated with the application program.

  • International Classification:
    G06F 3/00
  • US Classification:
    719328
  • Abstract:
A web services namespace pertains to an infrastructure for enabling creation of a wide variety of applications. The infrastructure provides a foundation for building message-based applications of various scale and complexity. The infrastructure or framework provides APIs for basic messaging, secure messaging, reliable messaging and transacted messaging. In some embodiments, the associated APIs are factored into a hierarchy of namespaces in a manner that balances utility, usability, extensibility and versionability.

    May 23, 2007
  • Appl. No.:

  • Inventors:
Nicholas Alexander Allen - Redmond WA, US
Erik Bo Christensen - Shoreline WA, US
Stephen James Millet - Edmonds WA, US
Kenneth David Wolf - Seattle WA, US
  • Assignee:
    Microsoft Corporation - Redmond WA
  • International Classification:
    G06F 15/16
  • US Classification:
    709224, 709207
  • Abstract:
Selectively modifying a message delivery requirement of a datagram message at an intermediary network node between an origin and a destination. A message delivery requirement is defined for a particular message. The message delivery guarantee defines how to transmit the particular message. A downgrading intent of the particular message is provided for the message at the origin. The downgrading intent of the particular message indicates that the message delivery requirement can be bypassed. The defined message delivery guarantee, the network delivery requirement, and the provided downgrading intent of the particular message are processed at the intermediate network node. The message delivery requirement of the particular message is ignored based on the provided downgrading intent. The message is delivered via a network protocol according to the provided downgrading intent.
  • Transport Independent Redirection

  • US Patent:
    7861001, Dec 28, 2010
  • Filed:
    Apr 29, 2008
  • Appl. No.:
    12/111890
  • Inventors:
Nicholas Alexander Allen - Redmond WA, US
Jay C. Thaler - Kirkland WA, US
Kenneth David Wolf - Seattle WA, US
  • Assignee:
    Microsoft Corporation - Redmond WA
  • International Classification:
    G06F 15/173
    G06F 15/16
    G06F 9/46
  • US Classification:
    709238, 709203, 718105
  • Abstract:
Transport independent redirection. If a client computing system were to request a service from a service computing system, the service may determine whether or not the client should request the service from yet another service. If the client should request the service from the other computing system, the original service (or its intermediary) generates and transmits a transport-independent redirect message to the client. The client may then issue the request to the new service specified in the redirect response. The redirect message is not limited to a particular type of transport protocol. In addition, the redirect may be made possible in any number of message exchange patterns, not just request-response.

  • Filed:
    May 23, 2007
  • Appl. No.:
    11/752472
  • Inventors:
Nicholas Alexander Allen - Redmond WA, US
Erik Bo Christensen - Shoreline WA, US
Stephen Maine - Seattle WA, US
Stephen James Millet - Edmonds WA, US
Kenneth David Wolf - Seattle WA, US
  • Assignee:
    Microsoft Corporation - Redmond WA
  • International Classification:
    G06F 15/173
  • US Classification:
    709239, 714701, 714776, 717162, 704229
  • Abstract:
Transforming portions of a message to a destination via a communication protocol. A message is received. It is detected whether the received message includes an encoded envelope. The encoded envelope includes a stack defining parameters including information for handling the received message in an original format. If the received message includes the encoded envelope, the defined parameters are transformed to coded parameters in a common format. The coded parameters express the same information for handling the received message in the communication protocol. The encoded envelope is encapsulated in the received message, and the received message in the common format is delivered to the destination. If the received message does not include an encoded envelope, coded parameters are generated in the common format for the received message by encoding addressing information from the received message. The received message having the coded parameters in the common format is delivered to the destination.
