A method for preparing organometallic complexes of the general formula (I):M(RPD)  (I)in which M may be iron, ruthenium, or osmium, R is hydrogen or an alkyl group having about 1 to 4 carbon atoms, and PD is a cyclic or open chain dienyl system that is known to form a sandwich type complex is provided. The complexes having formula (I) have a metal purity of at least about 99. 99%. The method involves reacting a M(III) trichloride hydrate with an HRPD compound and at least one reducing metal, such as aluminum, in an alcohol solvent.

A wireless network of surgical consoles and other equipment is used to transfer data. A surgical console has a system processor running software that operates the surgical console and a wireless processor coupled to the system processor. The wireless processor runs software that facilitates wireless communication. A transceiver is coupled to the wireless processor. The system processor is physically separate from the wireless processor. The wireless processor is used to transfer data to other devices and receive software updates.

A surgical system includes a control device, a touch screen display, and a GUI displayed on the touch screen display. A parameter icon has a parameter area, a first set point, a second set point, a parameter line extending from the first set point to the second set point, and a value orb located on the parameter line. The location of the value orb on the parameter line corresponds to a control position of the control device. A parameter value area is located under the parameter line and extends from the first set point to the value orb. A numerical parameter value is located in the parameter area. The parameter line represents a range of parameter values from the first set point to the second set point, and when the control device is a foot pedal, a range of travel of the foot pedal.
