NoDa News Editor The Arts District in Charlotte (NoDa) is a destination neighborhood with restaurants, music venues, shops and homes. When I moved there, there was no local newspaper, so I headed up a team to launch one. From 2007-2011 I volunteered countless hours as NoDa's Newspaper Editor. This involved gathering news stories from neighbors and local businesses, writing and editing monthly content, coordinating ad sales to offset costs of printing and distribution of paper, and implementing a distribution system. NoDa Neighborhood Neighbor of the Year 2007 I have never been so surprised and flattered to hear my name through a microphone that wasn't being held by a karaoke DJ. In 2007, I was voted "Neighbor of the Year" by my neighbors and the Historic North Charlotte Neighborhood Association (NoDa) Board. An even bigger honor was having my likeness painted into an artist's mural on the side of a building in downtown NoDa. Richmond, VA has one of the most active Ad Clubs I've seen. I was fortunate to be a part of the Board for four and a half years. My volunteer role included Ad Club Member recruitment, monthly and annual event planning, branding and copywriting for the organization's annual non-profit client, acting as Chair for Richmond Show Judges Weekend and helping to plan, organize and execute the city's ad awards show—The Richmond Show.
