Abstract:

Extracts of members of the plant family Asclepiadaceae can alter or diminish a person's ability to taste some sugars. As such, the extracts can be used help a person reduce their caloric intake and thereby reduce their body weight or body fat percentage. An extract of the plant can be used as an ingredient in a lip balm. The -containing lip balm can be applied to a person's lips before they eat a sugar-containing food item. The lip balm can also contain other weight-loss promoting substances such as jasmine, grapefruit, vanilla, lemon, peppermint, oregano, ylang ylang, and combinations of the preceding substances.
