Abstract:
A system for efficiently feeding normal sized and oversized documents into different imaging positions overlying an imaging platen. All documents are initially fed onto the platen from an infeeding position desirable for normal documents substantially downstream from the upstream end of the platen. A normal document is only fed unidirectionally downstream into an imaging position. A sensed oversized document is initially fed downstream, but then, after its trail edge has cleared the infeeding position, it is reverse fed towards the upstream end of the platen into a imaging position partially overlying the normally unused upstream portion of the platen. A baffle normally directly overlies that area of the platen. During the initial reverse movement of an oversized document has baffle is pivoted upwardly at its downstream edge, at the infeeding position, to provide a document guide surface under the baffle. The baffle is then lowered onto that portion of the oversized document now extending thereunder before its imaging to provide an imaging background surface, and may be raised again for downstream ejection of the overiszed document.
