Abstract:

A structural metallic member particularly useful for framing interior and exterior walls, ceilings and floors of building structures consists of a hollow generally quadrangular in transverse cross-section stud consisting of at least three contiguous walls with the middle of the at least three walls being provided with a multiplicity of parallel, spaced, longitudinal rows of longitudinally spaced slits with alternate rows of slits being staggered such that the longitudinal spaces of one row are positioned substantially midway of the length of the slits of adjacent rows. In a form of studs where there are four contiguous walls, the slits are provided in the pair of opposed walls that will connect the inside and outside walls of the structure.

Abstract:

The double purpose goal structure makes possible two different types of scoring during a game like soccer, rugby, English football, or the like when a more conventional score may be made by the act of driving the ball into a lower netted "cage" section or through upper "field goal" frame when the ball may be kicked or otherwise driven for this goal over the heads of most intervening players from midfield points that would be less likely to be achieved if directed only toward the lower "cage" goal part of the double purpose goal structure. The double purpose goal structure includes a pair of spaced apart vertical post elements having attached thereto a screened framework positioned therebetween and extending rearward thereof to define a ball-trapping first goal opening. The post elements are of a height to extend a predetermined distance above the first goal opening. A crossbar is extended between and attached to the post elements at a predetermined height above and in the same plane of the mouth of the first goal opening to define a second goal opening; the second goal permitting a ball to pass freely therethrough.

Abstract:

This invention is directed to a novel hybrid type swimming pool for personal use which is well suited to the confined spaces of private yards and well adjusted to varying land contours, and the unique construction is specifically adapted to take advantage of semi in the ground placement of the pool so that the base or the lower portion of the pool where the hydrostatic pressure is the greatest is supported by the ground itself. The top of the pool is framed to provide strength against different pool stresses. Thus the novel construction technique for the first time permits low cost construction of an exercise pool, a facility needed by a large portion of the population at a price affordable to them.

Abstract:

A solar energy collecting system for a building structure having a south facing wall and a roof structure including upper and lower solar panels of rectangular configuration having top, bottom and side edges disposed one over another. The lower of the solar panels are mounted with their bottom edges parallel to the ground line of the south facing wall with the major axes thereof extending east and west and the minor axes positioned at an angle of about 70. degree. to the horizontal. The upper panel is also mounted with the major axis extending in an east and west direction and the minor axis positioned at an angle of about 50. degree. to the horizontal. With this arrangement of the panels, maximum effective winter sunlight reaches the panels as the plane of their collector surface is substantially perpendicular to the line of the sun's rays whereas, in the summer time, the uppermost panel receives much less heat than if it were perpendicular to the sun's rays. The bottom panels act more as an insulator for the wall of the building than a collector, having only a 15 to 90 ratio of effectiveness and the sun's rays, at those seasons when the lower panels are not fully shielded, coming in at a slant and are much more reflective in pattern.
