Abstract:

An actuator assembly in a disc drive includes a track accessing arm, a load beam and a slider. A proximal end of the load beam is mounted to the track accessing arm and a distal end of the load beam carries the slider proximate to a rotatable data storage disc. The load beam transmits a load force to the slider in the direction of the data storage disc. A support beam extends from the track accessing arm and supports a load force reducer between the support arm and the load beam. The load force reducer is operatively coupled between the support beam and the load beam for reducing the load force during take-off and landing of the slider relative to the disc surface.

Abstract:

A disc head slider (36) includes a slider body with leading, trailing, inside and outside slider edges (50,52,54,56) and a slider center line (58) extending from the leading slider edge (50) to the trailing slider edge (52). First and second raised side rails (60,62) are formed in the slider body and each include an inside rail edge (108), an outside rail edge (110), a leading rail edge (50) and a trailing rail edge (112). The first and second raised side rails (60,62) form first and second bearing surfaces (70,72), respectively, which terminate prior to the trailing slider edge (52). A raised center rail (64) extends along the slider center line (58) and between the first and second raised rails (60,62). First and second cavities (80a,80b) are positioned between the raised center rail (64) and the first and second raised rails (60,62), respectively. The first and second bearing surfaces (70,72) each include a leading section (100), a waist section (104), a leg section (102) which extends from the waist section (104) to the leading section (100), and a trailing section (106) which extends from the waist section (104) to the trailing rail edge (112).

Abstract:

A disc drive test slider apparatus for measuring contact force with a surface of a rotating disc media includes a slider body positioned proximate the surface of the rotating disc. The slider body includes an air-bearing surface substantially parallel to the surface of the disc and separated from the surface of the disc by a glide height. A cavity is formed in the slider body having a side wall substantially normal to the surface of the disc and a wall substantially parallel to the surface of the disc. A beam flexure is attached to the side wall of the cavity. A plate is attached to the beam flexure in the cavity, the beam flexure having a spring resiliency to permit movement of the plate in the cavity substantially normal to the surface of the disc. A contact rod is attached to the plate, and extends through the cavity and a via in the slider body. The contact rod has a distal tip projecting from the air-bearing surface.

Abstract:

A wet process phosphoric acid production method comprises digesting phosphate-containing ore in a slurry comprising sulfuric acid, whereby phosphoric acid and calcium sulfate crystals are formed; and separating the phosphoric acid from the calcium sulfate crystals; wherein a defoamer and a poly(carboxylic acid), or salt thereof, having a weight-average molecular weight of less than 1,000,000 grams per mole (g/mol), are added to the slurry. The poly(carboxylic acid) can be a poly(acrylic acid), or salt thereof, and the defoamer can be a dialkyl sulfosuccinate salt and an aliphatic alcohol or a fatty acid ester. The method enhances separation of phosphoric acid from calcium sulfate crystals in wet process phosphoric acid production by any one of increasing the volume average particle size of the calcium sulfate crystals, increasing filtration rate, and reducing foam formation.

Abstract:

A hydrometallurgical solvent extraction method includes mixing an aqueous metal ion solution with an organic solution of metal extraction reagent to form a mixture, and allowing the aqueous metal ion solution and organic solution to phase separate from the mixture; wherein prior to mixing the aqueous metal ion solution and the organic solution, a water-soluble or water-dispersible polymer comprising pendant sulfonic acid or sulfonate salt groups selected from the group consisting of sulfonated polystyrene; an addition polymer including at least one of styrene-4-sulfonic acid and 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropane sulfonic acid; naphthalene sulfonic acid-formaldehyde condensate; lignosulfonate; salts thereof; and mixtures thereof, is added to the aqueous metal ion solution, the organic solution, or to both the aqueous metal ion solution and the organic solution. The water-soluble or water-dispersible polymer can also be added simultaneously with or after mixing of the aqueous metal ion solution and the organic solution.
