    Mar 29, 1995
  • Appl. No.:
    8/413044
  • Inventors:
Allison A. Peckham - Pompton Plains NJ
Lennox O. Watts - Bronx NY
Marina Gertsek - Manhattan County NY
Kevin R. Smith - Holdrege NE
Don D. Taubenheim - Holdrege NE
Ronald J. Pistulka - Holdrege NE
  • Assignee:
Becton Dickinson and Company - Franklin Lakes NJ
  • International Classification:
    A61B 1714
  • US Classification:
    606181
  • Abstract:
A lancet assembly includes an injection molded housing with a metal stylet mounted therein and a cap or shield. The stylet is held in position by adhesive and a plurality of supports that retain a centrally located hub within a lower portion of the housing. An improved cap is provided for mounting over the stylet on the lower portion of the housing to shield the stylet prior to use. The cap also includes an octagonal flange at its lower end to ease removal of the cap from the housing and to provide a flat octagonal surface for independent standing during reshielding. The housing of the lancet assembly includes a plurality of molded-in longitudinal splines that provide a textured surface on the exterior of the housing to make the housing easier to handle and manipulate when loading the lancet assembly into a blood sampling instrument and includes an annular flange extending from the exterior surface of the housing to make insertion/removal of shielded lancet assembly into/from a blood sampling instrument easier.

  • US Patent:
    51473283, Sep 15, 1992
  • Filed:
    Mar 21, 1991
  • Appl. No.:
    7/673854
  • Inventors:
Thomas J. Dragosits - Valley Cottage NY
    Lennox Watts - Bronx NY
Steven Doumanis - Lincoln Park NJ
  • Assignee:
Becton, Dickinson and Company - Franklin Lakes NJ
  • International Classification:
    A61M 500
  • US Classification:
    604218
  • Abstract:
An operable syringe assembly comprises a barrel including a cylindrical coextruded body portion having a longitudinal axis. The body portion forms a side wall spaced from the axis defining a chamber for retaining fluid. The body portion includes an open proximal end and a distal end and further includes an inner portion of plastic material and a rigid portion of plastic material surrounding the inner portion. The rigid portion has a higher hardness than the inner portion. A plunger including an elongate shaft portion having a proximal end, a distal end and a rigid piston at the distal end is provided. The piston has an outside diameter greater than the inside diameter of the inner portion and a higher hardness than the inner portion. The piston portion is slidably positioned in fluid-tight engagement inside the barrel. The fluid-tight engagement is caused by the piston compressing the inner portion of the plastic material of the coextruded body portion.
