Abstract:
An adhesive formulation is provided comprising an elastomeric block copolymer having a midblock segment derived from polymerized diene monomer and at least two endblock segments derived from polymerized monovinyl substituted aromatic compound monomer, a midblock compatible tackifier, a midblock compatible oil, and endblock compatible resin and an antioxidant. The block copolymer can be either an unhydrogenated polymer having terminal endblocks with a molecular weight within the range of 13,000 to 30,000 or it can be a hydrogenated copolymer having terminal endblocks with a molecular weight of 11,000 to 20,000. The presence of roughly high molecular weight endblock segments results in an adhesive composition having superior (lower) stress relaxation and set.
Solvent Sprayable Contact Adhesive Formulations From Functionalized/Controlled Distribution Block Copolymers
The invention relates to a solvent sprayable contact adhesive composition comprising (i) one or more styrenic block copolymer compositions, (ii) a tackifying resin, (iii) a solvent and (iv) optionally one or more plasticizers, wherein said styrenic block copolymer composition comprises a selectively hydrogenated and functionalized controlled distribution block copolymer having monoalkenyl arene end blocks and hydrogenated controlled distribution mid blocks containing certain mixtures of monoalkenyl arene and conjugated diene.
Solvent Sprayable Contact Adhesive Formulations From (S-I/B)X Polymers
The invention relates to a solvent sprayable contact adhesive composition comprising (i) one or more styrenic block copolymer compositions, (ii) a tackifying resin, (iii) a solvent and (iv) optionally one or more plasticizers, wherein said styrenic block copolymer composition comprises: a. a tetra-branched block copolymer (IV) represented by the general formula (A-B)X; b. a tri-branched block copolymer (III) represented by the general formula (A-B)X; c. a di-branched block copolymer (II) represented by the general formula (A-B)X; and d. a linear diblock copolymer (I) represented by the general formula A-B; where: i. A represents a polymer block of a mono alkenyl arene; ii. B represents a polymer block of a mixture of isoprene and 1,3-butadiene in a weight ratio of isoprene to butadiene between about 70:30 and 30:70; iii. X represents the residue of a multi-functional coupling agent; iv. the weight percent of A blocks is between about 15% and about 35%; v. the relative amounts of copolymers IV, III, II, and I are from 0 to 20 weight percent IV, from 0 to 80 weight percent II, from 0 to 80 weight percent II and from 10 to 65 weight percent I, where the total of I, II, III and IV equals 100 weight percent.
High Flow, Hydrogenated Styrene-Butadiene-Styrene Block Copolymer And Applications
The invention relates to unique applications for the novel high melt flow, low viscosity, selectively hydrogenated styrene-butadiene-styrene (hSBS) or selectively hydrogenated controlled distribution styrene-butadiene/styrene-styrene (hSBSS) block copolymers, wherein the melt flow rate of said block copolymer is at least 100 g/10 min at 230 C. under 2.16 kg mass according to ASTM D1238. These block copolymers are novel and have the highest melt flow rate of any styrenic block copolymer also possessing high strength and elasticity. It has applications that prior to the present invention were not normally possible due to the normal low melt flow rate of styrenic block copolymers. The present invention also encompasses various fields of use such as a fiberglass hSBS or hSBSS reinforced mat, low viscosity hSBS or hSBSS coatings for industrial uses, hot melt adhesives prepared from hSBS or hSBSS blended with polyalpha-olefins, and elastic film, fiber, and nonwoven constructions using hSBS or hSBSS.

Abstract:
A primer composition suitable for metallic substrates, which primer comprises a hydrogenated elastomeric block copolymer having resinous endblocks, the copolymer being functionalized by treatment with an unsaturated monomer such as maleic anhydride. The primer composition further comprises an endblock compatible resin such as an aromatic resin. Such compositions are especially useful for priming metal which is later to be fabricated into channels and frames. Thus, it is of particular utility in the construction of double glazed insulated windows.

Abstract:
A pressure-sensitive tape is provided having a polyolefin backing, a primer comprising an elastomeric block copolymer which primer is applied from a non-aromatic hydrocarbon solvent, said tape further comprising an adhesive on the thus primed surface. Because the primer is laid down from a solution in a non-aromatic hydrocarbon solvent such as methyl cyclohexane the process utilizes an environmentally-friendly solvent.
The present invention is directed to a composition for a gel useful in fiber optic cable which has the normal consistency of a grease but which, if desired, will become a rubbery coherent gel upon heating; a method of making the heat-fusible gel, and a method of making a spliceable fiber optic cable, and a fiber optic cable. In the broadest sense, a heat-fusible oil gel composition for fiber optic cable is disclosed, comprising: from 50 to 80 wt. % of a grease-like gel based on a hydrocarbon oil containing from 2 to 10 wt. % of an S-EB or S-EP diblock polymer, or a mixture of these diblock copolymers, and from 20 to 50 wt. % of a grease-like gel based on a polar oil containing from 5 to 25 wt. % of an S-EB-S or S-EP-S triblock copolymer, or a mixture of these triblock copolymers.
