Abstract:
A vehicle cylinder head coolant passage inspection device and a method for inspecting vehicle cylinder head coolant passages therewith. A device and method of the present invention can be used to detect blockages present within such coolant passages. A device and method of the present invention uses one or more fiber-optic probes that can both emit and receive light. The probe(s) are used with a sensor that can register light reflected by a blockage and received by a probe(s) while in a coolant passage. Reflected light readings registered by the sensor can be used to determine whether a blockage is present.
Handheld Microprocessor Controlled Pneumatic Tappet Setting System
A tappet clearance setting apparatus includes a screwdriver, a pneumatic portion, and a controller. The screwdriver engages the tappet screw and the pneumatic portion provides a monitored and air flow through an engine cylinder. The controller directs the screwdriver to tighten the tappet until the air flow through the cylinder is indicative of a valve opening. The controller then directs the screwdriver to reverse directions until the sensed air flow indicates that the valve has closed, which further indicates that the tappet screw is in a reference position. From the reference position, the controller directs the screwdriver to loosen the tappet a predetermined amount to establish the desired tappet clearance.
A tool for adjusting the tappet clearance in the valve actuation system of an internal combustion engine includes a screw adjustment portion that is driven by a pneumatic powered screw driver. The pneumatic power to the screw driver is regulated to cause the screw driver to position the screw so that the desired biasing force is present. The screw driver bit passes through the head portion of a torque limiting wrench which is used to loosen and tighten the jam nut that secures the tappet adjustment screw. The tool also has a pneumatic driven gripping mechanism to hold the screw driver bit in position and prevent inadvertent displacement of the tappet adjustment screw while the jam nut is tightened.
