Abstract:

Methods and systems process a request for reimbursement of an expense incurred from a service provider by a customer. A first electronic packet having the reimbursement request is received at a coordination system. The reimbursement request includes an identification of the customer, an identification of a reimbursement-account provider, and a reimbursement amount. A second electronic packet is transmitted from the coordination system to a provider platform maintained by or on behalf of the reimbursement-account provider. The second electronic packet includes the identification of the customer, the reimbursement amount, and information related to a service provided for the customer by the service provider. A third electronic packet is received from the provider platform at the coordination system. The third electronic packet comprises an approval of the reimbursement request. Instructions are issued with the coordination system to effect payment for the service by the reimbursement-account provider.

Abstract:

Methods and systems are disclosed for processing a request to fund a purchase from a provider with a medical expense account. The request identifies expenses incurred with the purchase is received at a substantiation system and used to identify the provider. A determination is made whether the provider is included in a presubstantiation list, which identifies a set of providers determined to provide only goods and/or services eligible for funding by medical expense accounts. In response to a determination that the provider is included in the presubstantiation list, the expenses are automatically substantiated and substantiation information is generated and transmitted to a third-party administrator.

Abstract:

Methods and systems are disclosed for managing a medical savings account that invests funds in investment accounts. A request is received for payment of a healthcare expense incurred by a party authorized for recovery under the medical savings account. A balance is drawn against a line of credit secured by one or more of the investment accounts. At least a portion of the healthcare expense is paid with funds obtained from the drawn balance. At least a portion of some of the investment accounts are liquidated in accordance with instructions provided by the party or by an owner of the medical savings account to satisfy the drawn balance of the line of credit.
