Abstract:

Solvent based poly(urethane/urea) resins suitable for formulating flexographic and gravure laminating printing ink and coating compositions formed from a poly(urethane) prepolymer solution made from a blend of polymeric diols and diols reacted with diisocyanates and then with diamine in an organic solvent. The resin is prepared by adding the poly(urethane) prepolymer solution at a controlled rate to the diamine in a organic solvent which allows a resin solution to be formed, which may be used in the formulation of laminating printing ink and coating compositions without the need for adjuvants, grinding in polyvinyl butyral or blending with nitrocellulose base.

A retort ink contains binder, colorant and carrier and the cured ink has a bond strength to a layer of retort material of at least about 500 g/2.54 cm before retorting and/or the binder has an endotherm of 0.6 J/g or less or after retorting a bond strength of at least about 375 g/2.54 cm or destruct strength. Laminate plies carrying the ink and retorts using the ink are described.

Abstract:

The digital CMOS/LSI synchronous serial multiplier includes a register to store an X-bit sign magnitude multiplier in parallel. The digital multiplier number can be entered into the register either serially or in parallel. A serial N-bit 2's complement multiplicand input is provided. (X - 1) adder stages are connected in series. A control arrangement coupled to the register, the multiplicand input and the adder stages are provided to couple each of the magnitude bits of the multiplier number into a different one of the adder stages with the adder stages performing successive additions of the magnitude bits of the multiplier number to provide as an output of a last of the adder stages a serial product having M bits. A serial Y-bit 2's complement addend can be coupled to the first of the adder stages to add the addend to the product.

Abstract:

A flexible packaging printing ink is formulated from a copolymer of polyethyleneneglycol methacrylate and a polyamide resin, pigment, solvent and cellulose acetate butyrate. The polyamide resin is prepared by condensing a dibasic acid mixture with a diamine mixture. The dibasic acid mixture comprises about 0. 5 to 0. 8 equivalents of a C. sub. 20 -C. sub. 44 dibasic acid mixture comprised of about 60 to 100% dimers, 0 to 40% trimers and 0 to 5% monomers, and about 0. 2-0. 7 equivalents of at least one C. sub. 6 -C. sub. 12 dibasic acid such as azelaic acid and adipic acid, while the diamine mixture comprises about 0. 5-0. 8 equivalents of piperazine or a substituted piperazine and the balance comprises at least one C. sub. 2 -C. sub. 12 alkyl diamine such as ethylene diamine.

The present invention concerns polyester resins of General Formula I (HO—[RRC(CH—)][—OCOCHCO—][—CHO—]—H) or General Formula II (HO—[RRC(CH—)][—OCOCHCO—][—CHCR(COH)CHO]—H), wherein R, R, a, b, c, d, x, y, p, and z are as defined herein, for use in inks and coating compositions. The polyester resins of the present invention are particularly, but not exclusively, suitable to enhance the adhesion between a printing ink or coating composition and a substrate, especially a plastic substrate, to which it is applied. The polyester adhesion promoters of the invention are compatible with urethane-based inks and coating compositions.
