Abstract:

A diffuser adapted to regulate air flow from an underfloor air distribution system. A grille sits on a dust receptacle or basket-shaped housing that is supported by a mounting assembly in the floor. A flow regulator or damper nests inside the housing. Both the housing and the flow regulator have air slots extending through their side walls. Air from the underfloor air plenum passes through these slots into the diffuser and is forced through helical slots in the grille into the room above the diffuser. The air flow rate can be adjusted by rotating the flow regulator within the housing so that the slots in the flow regulator are either in or out of registry with the slots in the housing. The flow regulator can be rotated by turning the grille. The grille and mounting assembly have indicators that give a visual indication of the position of the flow regulator with respect to the housing, the opening of the slots, and the flow rate through the diffuser.

Abstract:

A flow rate sensor may have arms extending outwardly from a central axis or hub, with an aerodynamic upstream surface on each arm, and a blunt downstream surface that creates a reduced pressure zone adjacent to the blunt surface. At least one high-pressure fluid inlet is located in the aerodynamic upstream surface, and at least one low-pressure inlet is located in the reduced pressure zone downstream from the blunt surface. This combination of an aerodynamic upstream surfaces and a blunt face on the downstream side of the sensor generates an amplified signal that is suitable for modern controllers, and is significantly quieter than previous sensors.

Abstract:

A diffuser assembly is disclosed in which a plurality of baffles having baffle walls with baffle ears extending from selected baffle walls are part of the diffuser core. Adjacent baffle walls define a gap therebetween through which air from an air distribution system is forced to flow and to impinge the baffle ears. The baffle walls, baffle ears, and gaps provide for effective mixing of the air from the air distribution system with ambient air.

Abstract:

A condensing unit has a housing with a pair of compartments separated by a common wall. Within each compartment is a coil, a fan for passing air over said coil and a compressor operatively interconnected with the coil. There is an opening in the common wall that is opened and closed by a damper. The damper is rotatably or pivotally secured to the common wall to open and close the opening therein. A damper motor is provided for actuating the damper is response to attainment of a predetermined refrigerant pressure in the refrigeration system in the first compartment. Opening of the damper allows air to be drawn from the inoperative second compartment through the first compartment, resulting in a reduced pressure differential across the coil in the first compartment and a reduction in the air flow across the coil in the first compartment. With the reduced air flow, the pressure in the refrigeration system in the first compartment will rise to a predetermined level and the damper motor will be deenergized. A spring may be provided to bias the damper to the closed position.
