Abstract:

A filter assembly includes housing enclosing a replaceable filter element. A support core is provided in the housing, and includes an extension and locking assembly. The element includes a ring of filtration media with a pair of end caps. The first end cap includes a central opening to receive the support core. The extension and locking assembly prevents the cover of the housing from being attached to the housing body without a proper filter element installed. The extension and locking assembly includes a bypass member and a locking member, which are in locking engagement when an element is absent in the housing. The second end cap includes internal protrusions which engage the locking member when the filter element is installed to disengage the bypass member from the support core, and allow the element to be inserted and the cover to be installed.

Abstract:

A discharge water system for the bilge of a boat includes a primary bilge discharge system and a supplemental bilge filtration system. The primary discharge system includes a pump operable when the fluid in the bilge collects above a predetermined level in the boat to discharge bilge water overboard. The supplemental system includes a filter assembly with filter media for removing hydrocarbons in bilge water passing through the media; and a pump operable when the water in the bilge collects to a selected level below the operating level âLâ of the primary pump to pump bilge water to the filter assembly and then to discharge the essentially hydrocarbon-free bilge water overboard. The filter assembly includes primary secondary filter cartridge, both of which include hydrocarbon-absorbing media, and are connected in series. A pressure sensor and remote indicating device provide an indication of the primary filter cartridge becoming spent.

Abstract:

A filter head and a spin-on fuel filter element where the filter head includes an inlet and an outlet. A threaded nipple extends downwardly from a base of the filter head and includes a central flow passage. A valve member located in the flow passage is normally biased closed. The valve member includes a threaded portion extending outwardly from the nipple. The filter element includes upper and lower end caps, and is located in a housing having a tap plate. The tap plate includes a threaded central opening for screwing the filter element onto the filter head. The upper end cap supports a threaded sleeve which is screwed onto the valve member. The sleeve/valve member combination has a different thread pitch than the tap plate/nipple combination, which moves the valve member to an open position when the filter element is installed on the filter head.
