Abstract:
An apparatus for removing casings from sausages having a frame, and a conduit extending within the frame through which a string of linked sausages are longitudinally moved. A knife means is pivotally mounted in the longitudinal path of the linked sausages and is capable of moving into the recessed portions of the string existing between adjacent ends of the linked product to sever the casing material in that area. A spin jump paddle is pivotally and transversely mounted in the path of the string of sausages downstream from the knife element so that the casings will pass thereover. The paddle has a width greater than its thickness and will rotate from a flat position to a vertical position depending on the portion of a linked product that is passing thereover. The casing material being removed from the linked product passes over the paddle and downwardly to a pair of gripping rolls. Steam is injected into the conduit and diverted through the length thereof to loosen the casing material from the cooked product.

Abstract:
An easily manipulable device for determining the volume of an area under examination, comprises a probe having an actuator imparting motion to the prostate, a sensor for measuring the displacement of the actuator, and a load cell for measuring the force exerted by the prostate in response to the imparted motion or alternatively, the force exhibited by the probe. Signals obtained by the load cell and signals generated by the sensor are sent to a computer processing unit whereby the mass and the volume of the area are each determined and outputted numerically on a visual display. In another embodiment, the probe has only two sensing elements, a sensor for measuring displacement, and a load cell for measuring the force exerted by the prostate or alternatively, by the probe. In this embodiment, the tapping motion of one's finger against the prostate replaces the actuator. In another embodiment, the probe has only two sensing elements on its distal end, a motor driven actuator and a load cell.

Abstract:
An electronic still camera is disclosed which adjusts focus to an object image by mechanically moving an electronic sensor within the electronic still camera. The electronic sensor is moved along an optical path of the electronic still camera. In this way, the sensor follows the focal plane of the image, thus tracking a focused image.

Abstract:
The vehicle safety seat supports an occupant and includes structure interconnecting the seat and the vehicle. The interconnecting structure is adapted to constrain the seat, upon vehicle deceleration, to follow a trajectory with respect to the vehicle which substantially minimizes a cost function associated with occupant injury. In a preferred embodiment, the structure constrains the mass center and seat angle to follow trajectories which substantially minimize primarily forward motion of the occupant in the vehicle frame of reference.

Abstract:
A handle/actuator for use with a steerable catheter having a tip assembly and four pull cables for bending said tip assembly, comprises a housing containing rotary and linear actuators. The rotary actuator is in the form of a wheel rotatably supported in said housing with a portion of said wheel being accessible from the exterior of said housing. Two of the pull cables are anchored to the wheel such that clockwise rotation of the wheel applies tension to one pull cable and counter-clockwise rotation of the wheel applies tension to the second pull cable. The linear actuator comprises a slider mounted in said housing and means exterior of the housing for moving the slider linearly. The third and fourth pull cables are anchored to the slider such that linear movement of the slider in one direction applies tension to the third cable and linear movement of the slider in the opposite direction applies tension to the fourth cable.
