the Carolina Hurricanes, giving him his fourth 30-goal season since joining the team during the 2005-06 season, in what has been one of the most lopsided trades of the salary cap era. Sharp was traded, along with Eric Meloche, from Philadelphia to Chicago for Matt Ellison and a third-round draft pick.
He arrived with little fanfare from Philadelphia in December of 2005 for Matt Ellison and a third-round pick. Ellison became a star -- in the KHL -- while Sharp blossomed into a complete player and sniper extraordinaire. Its arguably one of the best trades in franchise history.
Sharp was drafted by the Philadelphia Flyers in the third round of the 2001 Entry Draft (No. 95), and after splitting two seasons between the Flyers and the AHL, he was dealt to the Hawks on Dec. 5, 2005 along with Eric Meloche for Matt Ellison and a 2006 third-round pick.
Originally drafted in 2001 by Philadelphia, Sharp played his first three NHL seasons with the Flyers, totaling only 15 points before he was dealt to Chicago in exchange for forward Matt Ellison.
