Abstract:

Methods and systems for providing secondary power to aircraft systems. In one embodiment, an aircraft system architecture for providing power to an environmental control system includes an electric generator operably coupled to a jet engine. The jet engine can be configured to provide propulsive thrust to the aircraft, and the electric generator can be configured to receive shaft power from the jet engine. The environmental control system can be configured to provide outside air to a passenger cabin of the aircraft in the absence of bleed air from the jet engine.

Abstract:

A mechanism having a pair of pivoting cassette clamping bars. The clamping bars are connected to a pneumatic cylinder or an electromechanical actuator through a series of links and an actuator wheel so that extension and retraction of the pneumatic cylinder or the electromechanical actuator causes the clamping bars to rotate and counter-rotate. The use of a pneumatic cylinder provides smooth, well-controlled movement of the clamping bars.

Abstract:

A surgical system having all of the various pneumatic control sub-systems or sub-manifolds integrally mounted on a common primary manifold. The various required control mechanisms such as valves are likewise integrally mounted to the common manifold and to the sub-manifolds. Within any or all of the sub-manifolds or primary manifolds, volumes of material not necessary for the operation of the manifold are carved or pocketed out and used to form integral accumulators for storing extra pressurized air. The volume of the accumulator can vary according to the pressurized air requirement of the particular manifold, or the overall pneumatic system.

Bleed air systems for use with aircraft and related methods are disclosed. An example apparatus includes a compressor having a compressor inlet and a compressor outlet. The compressor is to be driven by a drive shaft extending from an engine of an aircraft. The example apparatus also includes a first passageway to fluidly couple a first low-pressure bleed air port from the engine to the compressor inlet and a second passageway to fluidly couple the compressor outlet to a system of the aircraft.
