Abstract:

Various types of valves are disclosed, as well as the use of the same in a reaction control system for space travel vehicle applications. Multiple functions are provided by one of these valve designs by providing multiple flowpaths through the valve. An inflow and outflow tube of this multifunctional valve are fluidly interconnected with first and second chambers, respectively, within the valve. These first and second chambers are isolated from each other by a barrier assembly which may be âremovedâ at the desired type by a barrier rupture assembly to provide one of the noted multiple flowpaths (i. e. , the inflow tube, the first chamber, the second chamber, and the outflow tube). A separate service port is fluidly interconnected with each of the first and second chambers, and a separate service valve may be disposed in each of these service ports to provide additional flowpaths for the multifunctional valve. One flowpath which exists prior to a rupturing of the barrier assembly includes the inflow tube, first chamber, and its associated service valve.

Abstract:

A tool for positioning or seating a ring seal within an annular groove of a seal fitting is disclosed. Generally, the ring seal seating tool of the present invention includes a first member for receiving a ring seal fitting to support such fitting during seating operations, a second member for at least aligning the ring seal with the ring seal groove of the ring seal fitting, and a third member for advancing the ring seal into the ring seal groove via the second member.

Various joints within a duct assembly to allow relative movement between portions of a fluid system which are interconnected by this duct assembly are disclosed. This duct assembly is particularly suited for interconnecting a rocket fuel tank and rocket engine of a space travel vehicle. In any case, this duct assembly includes a pair of duct suctions, each of which includes a gimbal on an end thereof. The opposite ends of these two duct sections are disposed in a telescope-like arrangement with a slip joint therebetween to allow the duct sections to move at least generally axially relative to each other. This slip joint includes a pair of longitudinally spaced bushings, between which are disposed a plurality of annular seals. The bushings inhibit contain between the two duct sections by maintaining the same in spaced relation.
