Abstract:

A computerized system includes a central site with various databases and a user site connected for electronic communication over a networked communication system such as the Internet. The user site includes a computer having stored in memory an application that enables a user to develop a construction proposal including a detailed graphical model and a detailed cost estimate model, have the proposal submitted electronically over a networked communication system to a construction professional for a bid, and receive a response on the proposal from the construction professional over the networked communications system. The user accomplishes all of these tasks from a single computer environment. The application educates the user as it guides the user through a series of construction phases and steps, prompting the user to input critical information and make appropriate selections throughout the series of phases and steps.

Abstract:

Methods, computer-readable media, and specially configured machines are described for hosting an instance of a cross-realm zone that manages interaction among characters from different instances of a virtual world in a massively multiplayer online game. Different zones of the virtual world may support different numbers of realms or different combinations of realms, and some zones of the virtual world may remain as single-realm zones. When a character enters a zone, the character may be added to an instance of a cross-realm zone based on the virtual world for which the character is a member. A single cross-realm zone may handle all characters that enter the zone from a subset of realms, but not characters that enter the zone from other realms that are not in the subset of realms. Characters in a cross-realm zone might not have any affiliation or prior social connection or interaction with each other.

Abstract:

In an improved bubble lattice file (BLF) structure, two adjacent layers of magnetic bubble domain material are utilized to provide separate media for supporting carrier bubbles or coded bubbles. The coded bubbles, in one layer, represent data stored in the bubble lattice file. The carrier bubbles, in another layer, are magnetically coupled to the coded bubbles and are used in manipulation thereof. The magnetic bubble domain layers may be separated by an appropriate interface layer or surface. The lattice file area, or storage area, is biased by a single layer of bias material while adjacent areas, such as an input/output region, include a pair of biasing layers disposed on opposite sides of the adjacent layer structure. This composite permits an improved bubble lattice file structure which utilizes the storage capabilities of bubble lattice file memories as well as the operating capabilities of so-called conventional magnetic bubble domain device techniques.

Abstract:

A software architecture for a computer telephony server for simultaneously implementing a plurality of messaging applications is provided. The server includes a processor, a memory and a plurality of slots connected to the processor through a high-speed bus, each of the plurality of slots being adapted to receive an interface card for connecting the server to an external resource. Abstract:

A "video fax" system electronically delivers a non-real time, full-motion, sub-broadcast quality facsimile of relatively short segments of video material from an originating location to a receiving location in a short period of time, utilizing selected widely available commercial telephone switched networks. At the originating location, analog source material is digitized, compressed, prepared for transmission and stored temporarily. Digital source material is handled by bypassing the digitization step and part of the compression step, and performing the necessary file conversion. The sending location dials up the receiving location, and a connection is established. The digital file is transmitted over the network. When finished, the connection is terminated. At the receiving location, the material is received, decompressed and converted back to either analog form or digital form, depending on the recipient's preference.

Abstract:

In the preferred embodiment, a monocrystalline film of substituted yttrium iron garnet (YIG) deposited on a oriented gadolinium gallium garnet (GGG) substrate is formulated so that the temperature variation of the ferromagnetic resonance frequency of the film has an ordinary minimum. For a range of temperature variations about the temperature at which the minimum occurs, therefore, the resonance frequency of the film is relatively insensitive to variations in temperature. This minimum is believed to occur where the temperature variations of the demagnetizing effect and the temperature variations of anisotropy effects more or less counterbalance each other. The counter-balancing effects are brought within range of each other primarily by the substitution of gallium or aluminum for iron and substitution of lanthanum for yttrium in the substituted YIG. Gallium or aluminum reduces the temperature drift of the saturation magnetization. Lanthanum adjusts the misfit stress and thus the anisotropy effects.
