Abstract:

Methods, systems, and computer program products for improving data transfer in complex computing environments. Internal routing enhancements are defined, which enable traffic of virtual servers to be processed more efficiently, thereby improving overall data transfer rates. Instead of performing routing operations in the Internet Protocol (“IP”) layer of a networking stack, a “mini-routing” table is created programmatically and is used to perform routing at the Data Link Control (“DLC”) layer. This technique avoids bottlenecks in the IP layer and speeds the data transfer process.

A system and computer program product for managing at least two physical links. A TCP/IP stack configures a first interface with attributes. The TCP/IP stack activates the first interface. The TCP/IP stack detects a channel path identifier (CHPID). The TCP/IP stack creates a second interface. The TCP/IP stack associates the second interface with the first interface. The first interface and the second interface are logically linked to exchange traffic corresponding to a single internet protocol address. The TCP/IP stack configures the second interface with at least one attribute. The TCP/IP stack activates the second interface. The two physical links may rely on two different physical link types.

A solution for monitoring one or more problem conditions in a communications protocol implementation is provided. The communications protocol implementation includes an internal monitor thread that monitors one or more resources for problem condition(s). The internal monitor thread sets a problem flag based on a problem condition being present. A control process in the communications protocol implementation that controls a resource includes a problem monitor that resets the problem flag when the problem condition is cleared. To this extent, the problem monitor provides a check against the internal monitor thread. In this manner, the internal monitor thread and the problem monitor provide the communications protocol implementation with the ability to perform self-health monitoring.

A computer implemented program product and data processing system for receiving data to a targeted logical partition. A computer locates buffer element in reliance on a connection status bit array. The computer copies control information to the targeted logical partition's local storage. The computer updates a targeted logical partition's local producer cursor based on the control information.
