Abstract:

A method for measuring and reducing the cost of complexity in producing products or providing a service by comparing selected non-value added steps in the manufacturing or service process with the number of different products or services provided, so as to provide the non-value added cost of the product or service for various selected complexities. The number of products required to be processed or held in inventory for a particular demand, or the number of different specific services required for a particular demand of the service is determined by comparing the number of different product part numbers, or service categories offered, with selected non-value added steps in the respective processes. Mathematical analyses are derived from equations of motion of process improvement including the first derivative of process velocity.

Abstract:

A fluid loss additive for hydraulic cement, comprising a polyvinyl alcohol resin and a fluid loss ameliorating sulfonic acid-functionalized co-resin, where the polyvinyl alcohol has a characteristic viscosity in the range of about 1 to about 25 cps. The invention includes, in some embodiments, an aqueous concentrate of the PVOH resin and the sulfonic acid-functionalized co-resin, where the total resin content is in the range of about 10% to about 40% and the viscosity is less than 15,000 cps. By way of the invention it is possible to adjust hydraulic cement slurry characteristics in real time upon demand and reduce inventory by providing a concentrated aqueous fluid loss additive.

Abstract:

Predictive cost reduction based on a thermodynamic model, in which parameters associated with a process are accessed. The parameters include a quantity of units of work-in-process at first and second times, and first and second constants respectively indicative of growth between the first and second times, and of a translated reduction of the work-in-process to a reduction of cost. A thermodynamic model is applied to the accessed parameters, and a predictive cost reduction associated with an improvement of the process based on applying the thermodynamic model is output.

Abstract:

The present disclosure generally relates to fixation plates for use in correcting Hallux Valgus deformities under the Lapidus approach. The plate includes holes defined therethrough in such a way to facilitate multiplanar stability across the metatarsocuneiform joint. The plate is further sized and shaped to approximate the natural anatomic contour of the bone segments surrounding the metatarsocuneiform joint.
