Abstract:

An instrument, article and method are provided for minimizing pain during administration by injection of a liquid, such as, an anesthetic. The instrument has a forward end. A lightpipe mounted freely for vibration projects out of the forward end. The article, a single use tip, is composed of a tip sleeve removably mounted on the forward end of the instrument and a tip member removably mounted on the projecting lightpipe to vibrate a preselected injection site on a human or animal. The tip sleeve and tip member are covered by an elastic overmold that enables the tip member to vibrate freely with respect to the tip sleeve and light from the lightpipe to illuminate the injection site. The overmold of the single use tip is torn during removal of the single use tip from the instrument.

Abstract:

The invention includes a protective eye device for an oral treatment patient including an eyepiece having bridge portions that form a seal with the nose. The bridge portions are a fulcrum between attachment portions that extend downwardly and outwardly from the bridge portions, and upper portions disposed above the bridge portions. A retaining member is coupled to the attachment portions below the fulcrum such that tension on the retaining member causes the attachment portions to extend toward the face and facilitates the sealing relationship between a lower rim and a middle surface of the face between the eyes and mouth. The tension on the retaining member simultaneously causes the upper portions to extend away from the face, and facilitates the spatial relationship, or a gap, between the forehead and an upper rim. The invention also includes a method for shielding the eyes of a patient.

Abstract:

A compact hand-held device adapted for alternative use as a protective weapon, a tool or a key holder is disclosed. A hollow cylindrical member having an open end and a closed end includes a chamber for storing a plurality of tool elements. A removable closure is threadably received in the open end for sealing the chamber of the hollow member. Abstract:

A bagging mechanism for packaging ice into plastic bags is provided. The bagging mechanism includes a roll support for supporting a roll of plastic, a feeding unit for feeding a predetermined length of plastic from the roll of plastic along a feeding path, a sealing unit positioned along the feeding path for sealing the length of plastic across a width thereof to define a bottom and a top of the plastic bag, a breaching unit positioned along the feeding path downstream from the sealing unit for breaching at least one layer of the length of plastic, thus defining an opening at a top of the plastic bag, and a spreading unit positioned downstream from the breaching unit, the spreading unit having a plurality of elongated fingers adapted to extend between layers of the plastic and hold the top of the plastic bag open while it is filled with ice.
