Abstract:

The present invention is directed to a system for conducting targeted advertising and promotions from at least one seller selected from a plurality of sellers to at least one buyer selected from a plurality of buyers using a computer network. The system includes receiving seller information, including seller identifying information and seller preference information, over the computer network; receiving buyer information, including buyer identifying information and buyer preference information over the computer network; selecting at least one seller from the plurality of sellers and at least one buyer from the plurality of buyers based upon the buyer preference information and the seller preference information; incorporating seller identifying information for the selected seller into a buyer game piece for a game to be provided to the buyer over the computer network using the buyer information to determine a winner of the game from among the plurality of buyers; and tracking the buyer and the seller's actions in connection with the game.

Abstract:

The present invention is directed to a system for facilitating a transaction between a buyer and a plurality of sellers for a product sold at quoted rate that may include establishing an information exchange system for exchanging information between the buyer and the plurality of sellers, wherein the information exchange system is independent of the buyer and the plurality of sellers. A profile may be established for the buyer (containing buyer information), and for each of the independent plurality of sellers that contains seller information for said individual seller, as well as product information for at least one of the products offered by each individual seller and statistics for the individual seller. A request for product information may be received from the buyer, and product information may be compiled from the individual seller profiles using the buyer information and the seller information. This product information may be transmitted to the buyer, and a rate request for said product may be received from the buyer based upon the product information. The rate request may be forwarded to the independent plurality of sellers, and a reply may be received from at least one of the sellers. The reply may preferably contain one or more selected from the group consisting of the quoted rate, an alternate product proposal, and a refusal. The reply may then be forwarded to the buyer.

Abstract:

Methods and apparatus for building a search index for a database are disclosed. When an incremental build trigger is detected (e.g., a threshold number of documents are added to database), the system determines which sub-indexes need to be updated and which sub-indexes do not need to be updated. Rather than update the affected sub-indexes directly, the system builds new sub-indexes to replace the affected sub-indexes. Database queries that occur during the generation of the replacement sub-indexes use the old sub-indexes. When the new sub-indexes are ready, the system moves pointers from the old sub-indexes to the new sub-indexes so that subsequent database queries use the new sub-indexes.
