Abstract:

Systems and methods for authenticating playback devices using timestamp validation in accordance with embodiments of the invention are disclosed. One embodiment includes measuring a time difference between the system clock and a clock on a remote server, retrieving at least one reference time difference from the playback device, where the reference time difference is stored in the playback device, determining whether the system clock of the playback device is valid by comparing the measured time difference to reference time difference, retrieving at least one timestamp when the measured time difference is valid, where each of the at least one timestamps is securely stored by the playback device in response to the occurrence of a predetermined event and is based on the current time of the system clock of the playback device when the predetermined event occurred, and determining whether the system clock is valid based upon the retrieved timestamp.

Systems and methods for binding of cryptographic content using unique device characteristics with server heuristics in accordance with embodiments of the invention are disclosed. One embodiment includes a processor and memory includes collecting a combination of device characteristics that uniquely identify the device using information stored on the device and accessible to the device using the device processor, generating device match data based upon the collected combination of device characteristics using the device processor, generating a device protection key using the device match data, encrypting the cryptographic data using the device protection key, and storing the encrypted cryptographic data in device memory using the device processor.

One embodiment includes securely storing at least one timestamp in memory within a playback device in response to the occurrence of at least one predetermined event, where a stored timestamp is based on the current time of a system clock when an event occurs, generating a cryptographic key using the at least one timestamp, securing cryptographic data using the cryptographic key, receiving a request to playback encrypted content, where the encrypted content is accessible using the cryptographic data, accessing the at least one timestamp, generating the cryptographic key, accessing the cryptographic data using at least the cryptographic key, and playing back the content using the playback device.

In addition, the registration server is configured to provide the first device with a first set of activation information in a first format, the first device is configured to store the first set of activation information in non-volatile memory, the registration server is configured to provide the second device with a second set of activation information in a second format, and the second device is configured to store the second set of activation information in non-volatile memory.

Abstract:

Content screening operations, which can include watermark extraction and the application of content usage enforcement actions, may be organized such that some or all of the operations can be conducted by different devices that are connected via connectors such as HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI), analog composite video, DVI (Digital Visual Interface), SDI (Serial Digital Interface), DisplayPort, or networked via Ethernet or wireless. Authentication and encryption methods are disclosed that can be used to establish the trust and secure communication between devices that conduct collaborative content screening. Delegation architecture may be based on ascertained screening capabilities of the sink device wherein the source device verifies that the sink device is capable and trusted to perform partial or whole screening operations delegated by the source. Alternatively, delegation architecture may be based on ascertained screening capabilities of the source device wherein the sink device verifies that the source device is capable and trusted to provide correct content credential and content use policy (“content credential”) that is needed for the sink device to determine whether content screening should be performed, and if yes, what content screening operations should be performed.

Abstract:

Methods and systems to indicate events of interest to a user. IN an embodiment, an event processor queries each of a plurality of event data sources, then receives event data from one or more event data source. The event processor then identifies an event to be indicated to a user device based on the event data. The identified event to the user through a user device. The event processor may receive, via the user device, feedback regarding the identified event. This feedback may be used to train future event identification. The event processor may be implemented at a computing device that is remote from the user, such as a server. Alternatively, the event processor may be implemented internal to the user device.
