Abstract:

The present invention is a method and apparatus for converting a first tag word into a second tag word which correspond to a set of registers. Adjacent bits in the first tag word are determined which correspond to different registers in the set of registers. The determined adjacent bits in the first tag word are extracted and deposited into corresponding adjacent bit positions in the second tag word.

Abstract:

A floating point unit includes a multiplier, an approximation circuit, and a control circuit coupled to the multiplier and the approximation circuit. The approximation circuit is configured to generate an approximation of a difference of the first result from the multiplier and a constant. The control circuit is configured to approximate a function specified by a floating point instruction provided to the floating point unit for execution using an approximation algorithm. The approximation algorithm comprises at least two iterations through the multiplier and optionally the approximation circuit. The control circuit is configured to correct the approximation from the approximation circuit from a first iteration of the approximation algorithm during a second iteration of the approximation algorithm by supplying a correction vector to the multiplier during the second iteration. The multiplier is configured to incorporate the correction vector into the first result during the second iteration.

Abstract:

An integrated circuit includes at least a first fuse and at least a first processor. Each fuse is in either a conductive state or a non-conductive state. The first processor is configured to operate at one of at least a first issue rate or a second issue rate responsive to the state of the first fuse. The first issue rate is lower than the second issue rate. In another embodiment, the first processor is configured to execute fewer instructions in a period of time responsive to a first state of the conductive state or the non-conductive state of the first fuse than the first processor is configured to execute in the period of time responsive to a second state of the first fuse. A method includes: (i) determining if an integrated circuit comprising at least one processor has a performance rating that exceeds a government-imposed export restriction; and (ii) in response to the performance rating exceeding the export restriction, blowing at least one fuse on the integrated circuit. The processor responds to a blown state of the fuse by executing, during use, fewer instructions per period of time than the processor would otherwise execute.

A graphical object is generated according to a first application in a document of a second application. The graphical object is constructed as a composite, data-driven object. The graphical object's data is organized so that the semantic data (e. g. , relationship among individuals on an organizational chart) is persisted separately from presentation data (e. g. , the layout and style of shapes and connectors for visualizing the organizational chart). The rank of a page for a keyword is a combination of intrinsic and extrinsic ranks. The former is obtained from the analysis of the keyword matching in various parts of the page while the latter is obtained from the context-sensitive connectivity analysis of the links connecting the entire Web. The present invention also provides the methods to solve the self-consistent equation satisfied by the page weights iteratively in a very efficient way. The ranking mechanism for multi-word query is also described. Finally, the present invention provides a method to obtain the more relevant page weights by dividing the entire hypertext pages into distinct number of groups.

Abstract:

The invention involves a flywheel motor/generator having a holder to maintain the permanent magnets in a circular array on the rotor. Unique aspects of the invention include the magnet shapes that are used, the liner/retainer configuration used to secure the magnets, and the construction of the rotor in the immediate vicinity of the magnets. The principal functions of the design are 1) managing stresses in the rotor and the magnets at high speed when centrifugal acceleration can exceed 100,000 g's, and 2) securing the magnets when the assembly is at rest when magnets that are not properly secured can reposition themselves in deleterious ways through mutual attraction or repulsion. Keying features are also provided on the ends of the magnets to aid in assembly of the rotor and to maintain the magnets in the proper orientation.
