Abstract:

In a machine for treatment of tree thinning residues and logging slash of the type having free-swinging flails pivotably connected to rotatable support structures at a pivot point, the improvement is made wherein each flail comprises a cutting blade containing the effective center of mass of said flail, and a plurality of side arms connected at one end of said cutting blade and having at the other end means for pivotal connection to said rotatable support structure, said means for pivotal connection being located on said rotatable support structure and the length of said arms being such that the distance R from the axis of rotation of said rotatable support structure to said pivot point, and the distance L from said pivot point to said flails effective center of mass having the following relationship: R/L=n/2 where n is any integer from 1 to 5.

Abstract:

A stamped and scored one-piece container lid with an integral push-in tear tab has a tab-defining score line formed with a bottom wall, an inclined first side wall and a second side wall opposite to the first side wall and which is upset onto the bottom wall and the lower portion of the first side wall forming a ring around the latter with the result that the tab is relatively easy to push in, but is able to withstand an appreciable outward force due to pressure inside the associated container.

Abstract:

A stamped and scored one-piece container lid with an integral push-in tear tab has a ridge embossed in the tear tab and a push location to the rear of the ridge. When the push location is depressed, the tab tears along its score line and rotates into the container. The ridge prevents the user's digit from sliding along the declining tab through the opening in the lid left by the tab and possibly contacting the sharp edge thereof. Special indentations may be formed in the lid at or near the opposite ends of the score line which make it easier to depress the tab to produce a large effective pour opening in the lid.

Abstract:

A modular rotary discoid valve assembly includes a housing for positioning on an engine of the piston and cylinder type. The housing includes an intake passage for conducting a working fluid to the cylinder and an exhaust passage for conducting the working fluid from the cylinder. The housing has an internal cavity which intercepts the intake and exhaust passages, which cavity contains a rotary valve member having a window whose size may vary with increasing distance from the disc axis and/or angular position on the member. The window is so positioned that when the member is rotated, it opens and closes the intake and exhaust passages in a periodic manner. The valve assembly also includes a throttle member mounted in the housing parallel to the rotary valve member. The throttle member has a hole which may be positioned opposite the intake passage. The throttle member is movable relative to the axis of the rotary valve member between a first position which places the hole in the shutter means opposite a first portion of the valve member and a second position which places that hole opposite a second portion of the valve member so that when the valve member is rotated, the open time of the intake passage can be controlled by the position of the throttle member.

Abstract:

A rotary valve assembly includes a housing for positioning on an engine of the piston and cylinder type. Abstract:

Thus, the assembly alternately opens and closes the intake and exhaust passages in a periodic manner. Preferably also, the valve assembly includes a throttle bar slidably mounted in the housing parallel to the rotary valve member.

Abstract:

A method and apparatus uses energy in an energy output system having a main power source, an energy transmission system and a mechanical output. A first portion of energy generated with the main power source is used to drive the mechanical output under operating conditions. The unused second portion of the energy is diverted to an energy storing means. The second portion of energy is then stored and regenerated on demand. The energy may be used directly to augment the energy requirements in the energy output system during peak periods. In a specific embodiment, a compressed air system is used for storing the energy not used in driving a mechanical output connected to the power source by an energy transmission assembly. The energy transmission in the energy output system is a hydraulic fluid transmission system. A hydraulic fluid diverting mechanism is used to maintain the flow of hydraulic fluid to the mechanical output and to the compressed air energy storage system.
