Abstract:

An apparatus for killing insects, the apparatus including an electrical mechanism for killing insects, an inner shell, the inner shell being surrounded by the electrical mechanism, and a mosquito attracting device within the inner shell. The insect attracting device includes a fan, a heat source, and a source of CO. The inner shell has a plurality of openings in the inner shell for ejecting heated air and CO from within the inner shell, the openings being formed by indentations in the surface of the inner shell, each indentation being open at one end so as to form an opening which lies substantially perpendicularly to the extending axis of the inner shell. The insect attracting device further includes a mechanism for closing the source of CO and for stopping the fan when the temperature within the inner shell goes below the temperature. The insect attracting device further includes a moisture source, and an insect attractant. The apparatus for killing insects also includes a mechanism for opening the source of CO and for starting the fan when the temperature within the inner shell reaches a certain temperature.

Abstract:

A method of balancing a movable rotating object having multiple radial projections, such as a ceiling fan, the method comprising the steps of: attaching to a non-rotating portion of the object a source that emits a focused light, directing the focused light at a target, and then attaching a weight to a location on one of the rotating projections. Then observing the orbit traced by the light source on the target, changing the location of the weight to another location on one of the radial projections, and then observing the change in the orbit on the target.

Abstract:

The invention discloses a novel method and apparatus to determine the degree of residual mass unbalance and a corrective balance solution for a rotating assembly having a non-vertical axis of rotation. When the center of mass of the rotating assembly is not concentric with the axis of rotation, the condition of unbalance exists. When the rotating assembly is driven by a motor or drives a generator, fluctuations in power are produced proportional to the degree of unbalance. The method and apparatus to determine the degree of mass imbalance consists of measuring the average instantaneous real power over an interval of time, calculating the Fourier Transform of the demodulated signal, establishing the peak amplitude and phase associated with the angular velocity of the rotating assembly and calculating the amount of unbalance. The method and apparatus to provide for a corrective solution consists of simultaneously acquiring a position reference signal of the rotating assembly with the average instantaneous real power signal, calculating the phase difference between the two acquired signals at the angular velocity of the rotating assembly, calculating the magnitude of the unbalance, and calculating the quantity and location of corrective weight necessary to minimize the unbalance to an acceptable level.

Abstract:

A idiophone assembly for attachment to a rim or side of a drum comprising a idiophone, one or more quick release drum rim clamps and one or more fasteners and, as applicable, associated bosses for securing the clamps to the instrument is described. Advantageously, the assembly can be easily secured to the rim of a drum and easily removed from the drum as desired. In some variations, rubber insulating spacers are provided that at least partially acoustically isolate the instrument from the drum. The assembly is often positioned where it can be struck independently or in unison with the drum head to produce a rimshot or cross stick. A flexible drum stick is also described having two striking ends and a movable handle.
