Abstract:

An appliance circuitry housing is designed so a circuit board can be attached directly to the housing interior with circuit board electric terminals being accessible from the housing exterior. An integral door on the housing exterior can be pivoted to a closed position over the electric terminals and connected plugs. A plurality of housing legs with slots engage in openings in the appliance to secure the housing to the appliance. A resilient latch on the housing exterior holds the housing in its attached position to the appliance.

Abstract:

A front loading washing machine includes an integrated motor and controller assembly. In various embodiment, the controller is mounted directly to one of a pair of opposing endshields of the electric motor and the endshields are mounted directly to a stator of the motor. Additional embodiments include a rotor shaft of the motor having each of opposing ends supported within a bearing mounted within a respective one of the opposing endshields. In other embodiments, the controller can include an insulating shield positioned between a controller circuit board and the motor endshield to which the controller is mounted. The insulating shield providing electrical arcing protection, thermal insulation and/or electromagnetic insulation between the circuit board and the endshield.

Abstract:

An integrated motor and control system has an electric motor. A control controls operation of the motor. A housing substantially covers at least two sides of the control. The housing has an opening and a liquid guide for guiding liquid toward a predetermined position in the opening to prevent liquid from contacting the control. The control is mounted on at least one of the electric motor and the housing. A heat sink can be extended through the opening in the housing to cool the control. The liquid guide can facilitate natural convection over the portion of the heat sink exterior of the housing. The integrated motor and control system can suitably be used in a washing machine or other appliance where liquid may be encountered.

Abstract:

An apparatus includes an inner rotor motor and a stationary wiring conduit. The inner rotor motor includes a stator and a rotor spaced at least in part radially inside the stator. The rotor is rotatable relative to the stator about an axis. The rotor includes a rotatable shaft that presents a shaft bore extending axially therethrough. The stationary wiring conduit extends through the shaft bore and is fixed relative to the motor housing. The shaft bore rotatably receives the wiring conduit, such that the wiring conduit is permitted to remain stationary as the shaft rotates.

A blower motor assembly includes a blower wheel and a motor. The blower wheel includes an integrally formed hub. The motor includes a shaft rotatable about an axis. The hub presents a radially inner hub surface that at least in part defines a hub opening. The inner hub surface defines an inner cross-sectional dimension. The shaft is axially received within the hub opening, such that the blower wheel is supported by the shaft for rotational movement. The shaft includes a toothed region defining a plurality of arcuately spaced apart teeth. Each of the teeth includes a cutting edge. The teeth present an outer cross-sectional dimension that is great than the inner cross-sectional dimension of the inner hub surface, such that the cutting edges of the teeth cut a plurality of grooves in the inner hub surface as the shaft is axially received in the hub opening.

Abstract:

A method of assembling a motor for use in a machine is disclosed. The motor includes an axially extending rib protruding radially outwardly from the radially outer surface of the core. The motor further includes a groove-defining portion that defines an axially extending groove receding radially outwardly from the radially inner surface of the shell. The motor assembly method includes the steps of: (a) heating at least the groove-defining portion of the shell; (b) rotationally orienting the core and the shell so as to axially align the rib and the groove; (c) axially receiving the core within the shell such that the rib is received in the groove without interfering with the groove-defining portion; and (d) cooling at least the groove-defining portion so that the rib is fit within the groove via an interference fit.
