Abstract:

Methods of producing layered ceramic coatings in which some layers contain porosity are described, as are the coatings produced. The different layers are applied at different temperature conditions by periodically inserting a heat blocking shield between the heat source and either the evaporation source and/or an external heater. As applied, some of the layers have a Zone I structure and some have a Zone II type structure. Heat treatment may be used to increase the porosity in the Zone I structure layers.

Abstract:

The analysis system is a collection, configuration and integration of software programs that reside on multiple interconnected computer platforms. The software, less computer operating systems, is a combination of sensor, analysis, data conversion, and visualization programs. The hardware platforms consist of several different types of interconnected computers, which share the software programs, data files, and visualization programs via a Local Area Network (LAN). This collection and integration of software and the migration to a single computer platform results in an approach to LAN/WAN monitoring in either a passive and/or active mode. The architecture permits digital data input from external sensors for analysis, display and correlation with data and displays derived from four major software concept groups. Abstract:

A process of coating an article includes the steps of (1) applying a ceramic based compound to at least one surface of an article to form a layer of ceramic based compound; (2) applying at least one inert compound upon the ceramic based compound layer to form a protective layer, wherein the at least one inert compound is composed of a first inert compound having a cubic crystalline structure of formula (I) ABXO, or a second inert compound comprising a hexagonal crystalline structure of formula (II) ABXO, or a mixture of the first inert compound and the second inert compound; (3) optionally drying the coated article; (4) optionally repeating steps (2) and (3); and (5) heat treating the coated article.

Abstract:

A thermal barrier coating system for use on a turbine engine component which reduces sand related distress is provided. The coating system comprises at least one first layer of a stabilized material selected from the group consisting of zirconia, hafnia, and titania and at least one second layer containing at least one of oxyapatite and garnet. Where the coating system comprises multiple first layers and multiple second layers, the layers are formed or deposited in an alternating manner.

The thermal barrier coating comprises a ceramic material having a sodium containing compound incorporated therein.
