Abstract:
A tamper resistant assembly provides tamper resistance to an electrical receptacle. The tamper resistant assembly includes a base member having first and second grooves. Each groove has a first portion and a second portion connected to the first portion. The first portion is substantially perpendicular to a rear wall of the member and the second portion forms an angle with the first portion. A shutter member is slidably and pivotally connected to the base member for movement between open and closed positions. First and second protrusions extend outwardly from the shutter member and are slidably and pivotally received in the first and second grooves, respectively, in the base member. The first and second protrusions are disposed in the first portions of the grooves when the shutter member is in the closed position and prevent lateral sliding movement of the shutter member to prevent insertion of a foreign object past the shutter member, and in the second portions when the shutter member is in the open position by allowing lateral sliding of the shutter member. The first portions prevent lateral movement of the shutter member and allow pivoting movement of the shutter member to positions preventing insertion of a foreign object past the shutter member.

Abstract:
An electrical receptacle includes a housing having a cover or face member coupled to a base, and a mounting bridge extending around and contacting the bottom and the two opposite ends of the base. Each of the end-contacting portions of the mounting bridge has at least one base tab that projects inwardly into engagement with the end of the base, and at least one face tab, preferably barbed, that projects upwardly into the face member. During assembly, the base tabs preferably are bent over an upper edge of the base to firmly clamp the mounting bridge to the base. A line contact assembly extending along each side of the base has at least one line contact tab that projects upwardly into the face member. Mating snap-fit connectors afford additional robustness to the assembly.

Abstract:
A contact member for an electrical receptacle includes a connecting member having first and second ends. A first contact is connected to the first end of the connecting member and a second contact is connected to the second end of the connecting member. A first tab is connected to the first contact and is received by a base of the electrical receptacle. A second tab is connected to the second contact and is received by the base of the electrical receptacle. A plurality of barbs are disposed on the first and second tabs to securely retain the contact member in the electrical receptacle.

Abstract:
A steam iron with a valve between the water reservoir and the soleplate. The valve has a valve stem that is connected to the temperature control. The valve stem is axially rotated when the temperature control is moved without longitudinally moving the valve stem. The valve stem has a groove of varying depth located between an inlet and an outlet of the valve member to vary the flow of water through the valve based upon the rotational position of the valve stem relative to the valve member. A user actuated mechanism is also provided to longitudinally move the valve stem among closed, variable, and non-variable open flow positions.
A battery operated appliance having a casing provided with output means and a compartment for positioning disposable batteries utilized as a source of power for the output means wherein closure means are provided for the compartment which include a hinged cover mounted for slidable movement about a hinge connection into and out of a latched position relative to the appliance casing.

Abstract:
A steam iron having a water tank with an internal air trap and external gear mounts. The air trap holds a volume of air when the iron is being filled with water, but receives water when the iron is moved to a horizontal position to prevent water from spilling out of a water fill spout. The iron has gears that connect a temperature control of the iron to a water metering valve. The gears are stabily rotatably mounted directed to the water tank on the gear mounts.

Abstract:
A steam iron having a soleplate, a housing, an electric cord extending into the housing through a bushing pivotably mounted to the housing, and a retaining member mounted to the housing. The retaining member has a first section with a snap-off rib that forms a strain relief with the housing for the electric cord. The retaining member also has a second section with a curved portion that forms part of the pivotable connection of the electric cord bushing to the housing. A third section of the retaining member is a cantilevered arm that holds an electronic module against the housing.

Abstract:
An improved process for producing integral, composite handles having cushioned comfort grips, for appliances such as electric steam irons, comprising a first step of injection molding a one-piece handle substrate of strong, rigid, resinous composition having the desired predetermined shape and design, including a recessed, wrap-around area corresponding to the area of the handle which will be gripped by the hand of the eventual user of appliance. The present process comprises a second step of injection molding an integral, outer, soft, contoured layer of foamed resin into the recessed, wrap-around area of the rigid plastic handle substrate, to form a smooth, compressible, comfort grip surface area of the composite handle for engagement with the hand of the user.
