Abstract:

Copolymers of at least one hydrophobic enhancing monomer (e. g. styrene); at least one monomer selected from the group of acrylates, vinyl ethers, and conjugated dienes; and at least one hydrophillic enhancing organic acid (e. g. acrylic acid) are incorporated into water reducible coating compositions typified by the following formulation: ______________________________________ Ingredients Parts by Weight ______________________________________ Resin 25 Volatile Amine 1. 8 Defoamer 0. 1 Water soluble solvent 5. 4 Water insoluble solvent 1. 2 Water 40 ______________________________________ The coating compositions of this invention: (1) have low viscosities compared to other water reducible coating compositions; (2) may have a higher solids content than other water reducible compositions; (3) and allow a decrease in the use of volatile organic solvents.
