Abstract:

A keymat for use with a mobile station. The keymat includes a web for interconnecting a plurality of keys, the web and the keys lying external to the mobile-station enclosure when the mobile station is fully assembled. Means for retaining the keymat provide for it to be held in place during normal operation but permitting it to be removed so that user may exchange it for another. A plurality of key pins extending from the keys through openings in the mobile-station external housing may, but are not necessarily exchangeable with the keymat.

Abstract:

An enclosure for a mobile station such as a cellular telephone. The enclosure has a front cover and a back cover integrally formed with a living hinge, which may itself function as an end cover. The front and back covers rotate away from each other about the living hinge sufficiently to allow the mobile station internal assembly to be placed between them and, when it is thus disposed, rotate back together into a closed configuration where they can be secured together to prevent accidental opening. An end cover may also be formed by an intermediate cover portion, which may itself be connected to the front and back covers by living hinges.

Abstract:

A communication apparatus incorporating a visual signaling device. A first cover member and a second cover member cooperate to define a communication interior having communication components therein, permitting communication of messages. Keys are operable through one of said cover members to indicate control functions for the communication apparatus. Light emitting devices are visible through one of the cover members. A controller is responsive to operation of the keys to cause the light emitting devices to emit light signals in a pattern indicated by the operation of the keys. An accelerometer is responsive to movement of the communication apparatus to control spacing of the light signals to form a displayed light pattern.
