Abstract:A modular tool apparatus includes at least one handle, at least one utility tool, at least one attachment channel, at least one pivot pin, and at least one lever. The pivot pin includes a D-shaped cross section and rotatably connected to the handle thus enabling the foldable connection between the handle and the utility tool. The lever is terminally connected to the pivot pin and allows the pivot pin to be configured in between a locked position and an unlocked position. The attachment channel laterally traverses into the utility tool as the attachment channel is rotatably engaged around the pivot pin. The utility tool is foldably attached to the handle through the attachment channel and the pivot pin, wherein the D-shaped cross section of the pivot pin and a matching profile of the attachment channel allow the utility tool to be installed or removed from the pivot pin.

Abstract:The present invention relates to a method of identifying a candidate compound for modulating bacterial growth. This the method involves providing a β clamp peptide from a bacterial replicase, providing a second peptide that binds to at least one amino acid of SEQ ID NO:9 that is not designated X, wherein the second peptide does not exhibit polymerase activity, and providing a test compound. The β clamp peptide and the second peptide are contacted with the test compound, and the level of binding between the β clamp peptide and the second peptide in the presence of the test compound is determined. The level of binding between the β clamp peptide and the second peptide in the presence of the test compound is then compared to a control that does not contain the test compound. A test compound that alters the level of binding between the β clamp peptide and the second peptide compared to the control is a candidate compound for modulating bacterial growth.

Abstract:The present invention relates to an isolated DNA molecule from a thermophilic bacterium which encodes a DNA polymerase III-type enzyme subunit. Also encompassed by the present invention are host cells and expression system including the heterologous DNA molecule of the present invention, as well as isolated replication enzyme subunits encoded by such DNA molecules. Also disclosed is a method of producing a recombinant thermostable DNA polymerase III-type enzyme, or subunit thereof, from a thermophilic bacterium, which is carried out by transforming a host cell with at least one heterologous DNA molecule of the present invention under conditions suitable for expression of the DNA polymerase III-type enzyme, or subunit thereof, and then isolating the DNA polymerase III-type enzyme, or subunit thereof.
