Abstract:

A system and associated method write data from an in-memory database to a disk database in an efficient manner and with a relatively short lag time. The integration of data from in-memory to disk is achieved by limiting the operations of the in-memory database to insert only. The system shortens lag time by reducing the number of transactions required to transfer data from in-memory database to disk memory. The system compiles into an RDBMS, knowledge about the structure of the in-memory database, and then uses the end of the transaction callbacks from the RDBMS to keep the in-memory database and the disk memory in synch. The RDBMS includes a daemon that runs periodically to find records in the in-memory database that have not yet been written to the RDBMS, and then writes the found records to the RDBMS as part of a single transaction. If the transaction completes successfully, the in-memory database is updated to reflect which records have been “flushed” to the RDBMS. If the transaction fails, no action is taken. The present system synchronizes the in-memory database with the RDBMS.

Abstract:

A type information configuration process automatically determines type information for all real-time data feeds being loaded into a relational database system (RDBMS). The automatic type information configuration system reduces the complexity of configuration while improving reliability and maintainability of the RDBMS. This system also removes the need for an additional database table and the resources associated with that additional database. The configuration of the real-time feed loader details the table and column of the data stream to be loaded by each data feed. The data stream is created based on the type it is expected to hold. The sub-type of the data stream is held in an encoded form in the systems catalogs of the database server. The present system accesses and decodes this subtype information based on the column and table in the configuration file to automatically find the type being loaded by the data feed.

Abstract:

Embodiments of the present invention provide an efficient manner to systematically remove data from a memory that has been transferred or copied to disk storage, thereby facilitating faster querying of data residing in the memory. In particular, memory containing data received from data sources is partitioned into a fixed quantity of buckets each associated with a respective time interval. The buckets represent contiguous intervals of time, where each interval is preferably of the same duration. When data arrives, the data is associated with a timestamp and placed in the appropriate bucket associated with a time interval corresponding to that timestamp. If a timestamp falls outside the range of time intervals associated with the buckets, the data corresponding to that timestamp is placed in an additional bucket. Data within the oldest bucket in memory is periodically removed to provide storage capacity for new incoming information.
