Self-healing copolymeric materials comprising a plurality of intermediate strength crosslinks are provided. The copolymeric materials comprise a silicon component and a plurality of crosslinking components. The crosslinking components comprise a polymeric structure forming a structure held together by ionic and/or hydrogen bonding with a net intermediate strength. The plurality of intermediate strength crosslinks provide toughness to the material, and allow for rehealing by allowing reforming of the crosslinks after a disruptive stress incidence. The material is also suited for recasting, and can be used as an active matrix by incorporating additional substances. Articles of manufacture incorporating such materials, and methods of recasting such materials are also provided.

Abstract:
Peptide motifs which define specificity of tumor-derived endothelial cells. These peptides possess a charge motif of positive-positive-hydrophobic which is important in determining the specificity of binding to tumor-derived endothelium. The specific molecular peptide motifs will facilitate diverse therapeutic and diagnostic applications including: anti-angiogenic therapies to be used in alone or in conjunction with standard therapies; imaging tools for both detection of very small metastasis that are undetectable by current techniques; for monitoring tumor response; for targeting and directing chemotherapy drugs to the tumor; for treatment of chronic inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and psoriasis, for treating some forms of blindness; as well as other diagnostic and therapeutic applications.
A storage container includes a corner support extending across each corner and supported on an upper edge of each of the two adjacent walls in the corner. Each corner support is hingeably connected to one of the two adjacent walls. The corner support is supported on an upper surface of a column projecting inward from each adjacent wall. A ledge also protrudes inward from each column and supports a leg extending downward from the corner support. A third ledge is formed on an inner surface of the corner and supports a third leg extending downward from the corner support. Each corner support is pivotable about its hinge between a use position, generally parallel to the base, and an open position, generally adjacent one of the edge walls.
A bottle carrier includes a base and one or more arms extending downwardly from the base. The arms include an inwardly facing surface for contacting a neck of a bottle, and also include an inwardly extending tab having an upper surface for supporting a lip on the neck of the bottle. The tabs further include a lower surface angled away from the base as it extends away from the bottle. Upon insertion of a bottle into a bottle receiving area defined by the arms, the upper surface of the bottle contacts the lower surfaces of the tabs, thereby causing at least one of the arms to deflect outward, permitting insertion of the bottle cap and lip on the neck of the bottle into the bottle receiving area. Once the lip of the bottle is inserted past the tabs, the arms return toward their undeflected position, with the tabs positioned below the lip, retaining the bottle in the bottle neck receiving area.

Abstract:
A design strategy for constructing hierarchically structured materials using nanoparticles and synthetic biopolymers has been developed. Block copolypeptides or homopolymer polyelectrolytes are used as structure-directing agents to arrange nanoparticles (composed of metals, metal non-oxides, metal oxides, or organics) into unusual microstructures, such as spheres, “apples” and “cups. ” Hollow spheres can be made wherein nanoparticles of one composition are spatially oriented completely interior or exterior to nanoparticles of a second composition. These aggregates contain nanoparticles only in the shell walls, and maintain their hollowness upon calcination. These shapes can also be fabricated into films. These robust materials are anticipated to have great promise in applications that require surface catalysis, magnetic/electronic/optic properties, transport capabilities, and combinations thereof, such as drug delivery, packaging, catalysis, and sensors.
Supported Catalysts Using Nanoparticles As The Support Material
A process for making a porous catalyst, comprises a) providing an aqueous solution containing a nanoparticle precursor, b) forming a composition containing nanoparticles, c) adding a first catalytic component or precursor thereof and a pore-forming agent to the composition containing nanoparticles and allowing the first catalytic component, the pore-forming agent, and the nanoparticles form an organic-inorganic structure, d) removing water from the organic-inorganic structure; and e) removing the pore-forming agent from the organic-inorganic structure so as to yield a porous catalyst.

Abstract:
A method for making hollow nanoparticles, comprises a) providing an amount of a polyelectrolyte having a charge, b) providing an amount of a counterion having a valence of at least 2, c) combining the polyelectrolyte and the counterion in a solution such that the polyelectrolyte self-assembles to form spherical aggregates, and d) adding nanoparticles to the solution such that nanoparticles arrange themselves around the spherical aggregates. The polyelectrolyte may have a positive or negative charge. The charge ratio R of total charge of the counterions to the total charge of the polyelectrolyte is greater than 1.
Solvents And New Method For The Synthesis Of Cdse Semiconductor Nanocrystals

Abstract:
New methods for the synthesis of nanocrystals/quantum dots are disclosed. The methods comprise use of reasonably-priced and commercially available heat transfer fluids (such as Dowtherm A) as solvents to synthesize CdSe nanocrystals. Separation of nucleation and growth is achieved by quenching the reaction solution with relatively cold (room temperature) solvent to lower the solution temperature. Quenching may be followed by raising the solution temperature, to allow controlled growth to take place.
